I almost bought some fake onitsukas this year but the quality difference was remarkable
Maybe they save all the good fakes for taobao & alibaba
― 龜, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:38 (eleven years ago)
i have some fake new balance thatre prob like 95% quality of the original, something kind weird abt the tongue, but i bought those from good-seller which everyone said had the best knockoffs and they seem to be out of business now tho maybe i just cant find their current url
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:47 (eleven years ago)
There's levels to this shit
― 龜, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:49 (eleven years ago)

whats kinda weird abt the chinese knockoff market is air max 90s one of my alltime favs is by far the most common shoe, idk if theyre really huge in china or what never got the sense that they were the most popular in usa
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:52 (eleven years ago)
they are popular with sneaker dudes
― the late great, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:54 (eleven years ago)
yeah duh
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:56 (eleven years ago)
but airmax represents like 50% of the nikes on alibaba http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=nike&catId=&initiative_id=SB_20140916095721
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:58 (eleven years ago)
or more!
compare to the best sellers on eastbay which is much more diverse http://www.eastbay.com/Mens/Shoes/_-_/N-1pZne?Ns=P_TopSalesAmount%7C1&cm_SORT=Best+Sellers
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:01 (eleven years ago)
yeah and i guess sneaker dudes are pretty careful about not buying knockoffs
no idea
― the late great, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:01 (eleven years ago)
granted if u want jordans on alibaba u prob have to search jordans
maybe cause airmax are like always in style but youd expect to see more dunks and af1s idk
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:02 (eleven years ago)
btw roshe runs totally dont fit my foot shape and its kinda sad
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:03 (eleven years ago)
maybe there are a lot of old air max 1 parts and machines out in the wild for some reason
i don't really know much about how fake shoes are made but i imagine there might be some factors like that at work
― the late great, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:07 (eleven years ago)
ive heard some of them are just exactly the same shoes made in the same factories on the dl
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:08 (eleven years ago)
I think the Roshe was an in house challenge at Nike to see if they could sell a 50 cent pair of shoes for $60
― B.L.A.P. (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:08 (eleven years ago)
they r cool tho
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:09 (eleven years ago)
i mean all sneakers are 50c shoes
yeah i've heard the same thing about electronics, they make real ones by day and fakes by night, or just sell the ones that don't make the quality cut
maybe whoever owns the am90 factory is just really corrupt
― the late great, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:12 (eleven years ago)
iPhones only cost $0.75 the rest is just U2 ads

worth it tho
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 18:14 (eleven years ago)
I think the midnight factories/24 hr factories still exist but it also wouldn't be surprising to find out that the big multinationals have shut them down
It's probably also true that there's enough money in the fake shoe market to just reverse engineer shoes and I bet there are factories dedicated to that (as someone who has seen some truly atrocious fake shoes iml)
Even at the 24 hr factories they are probably using lower quality materials when making fakes

I had the blue/green air huaraches when I was in 8th grade, they were light as fuck and made you feel like you were running on clouds, although some of that was probably just shoe mythology getting to my head. The first day I wore them to school this kid who used to make fun of me sometimes goes "Look at hurting, the air huarache STUD" -- just another chapter in my long, troubled relationship with sneakers and trying/failing to be cool.

Breaking in new shoes when you've got to wear them on a nine hour shift then attend a gig straight after is the worst.
