Wow, I had no idea Anthony Braxton was a big Wolf Eyes fan, much less actually played with them. I love Braxton. He should write something for them to play with a weird diagram including a vacuum cleaner and a stuffed rabbit.

Brakhage (brakhage), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Ripped off from http://www.bagatellen.com/archives/frontpage/000919.html

2. On wolf eyes, is there any truth to the chatter of Braxton being a huge fan? or is it all just kooky Coley-spiel? especially this wild post on JazzCorner:
"from thirstin@HN_AM "victo fest - friday - braxton has intense press conference in hotel - after spending 20 minutes on each question where he goes way off on tri-axioms and jazz history metatheoretics. coley asks last question: "is it true you cleaned out the wolf eyes merch table at a swedish festival last year?" -- braxton leaps up and says wolf eyes are the new universe and he decided right then and there to move to stockholm and become a cook so he could be closer to this music. then he learns they are from michigan and his worldview is shifted and he realizes that there is hope for america with new angels of art existing here like wolf eyes. he claims his friends now refer to him as anthony "wolf eyes" braxton.
no shit. so wolfs and hair po show up and we hit the hotel bar hard and braxton appears after his duo gig with fred frith and connects with wolfs and nate asks braxton if he would like to smoke a joint. "I would be honored to smoke marijuana with the wolf eyes". Again, no shit. Next day braxton is at gig (3 pm) and nate asks braxton if he wants to jam w/ the wolfs and braxton says yes, just let me know when and nate says play the whole gig dude.
So after more weed blowing they hit the stage. the audience is all seated at
round tables in a huge theatre called the Colisee. Hair police already decimated this crowd, they were awesome. But now we're tripping. this is too unreal. Braxton swoops in and out of the jams, at one point doing killer long sax tone duets w/ olson. Nate announces stabbed in the face. and then olson asks braxton what jam they should do next. "Black Vomit" sez Braxton. seriously, no shit. unbelievable sickness.
that night dead machines/double leopards jammed together till 1 am then back to hotel bar for extreme wind down
canada dudes, the fuck..

Brakhage (brakhage), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

I'll put up "Black Vomit" when I get back from NYC if I can. Prolly Monday at earliest. I'm trying to get the two Hair Police tracks from Victoriaville too, but alas, $L$k hasn't yielded them.

blackmail.is.my.life (blackmail.is.my.life), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

I have the Wolf Eyes/Braxton set and can put these up this morning, if it doesn't violate Noise Brotocol.

William Paper Scissors (Rock Hardy), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

i can't see any aBROgation. by all means, BROceed!

William Paper Scissors (Rock Hardy), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, thanks Blackmail and William.!

Brakhage (brakhage), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

Could someone YSI a good selection of fine noise tracks 2005?

blackmail.is.my.life (blackmail.is.my.life), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

yes please. more 2005 on this thread. many many thanks for braxton/wolf eyes set. (how were the first two wolf-eyes only tracks?)

I'll post braxton's 96 this weekend

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 7 October 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Those four tracks, all with Braxton, are the whole Wolf Eyes set. The track numbers are 3-6, so I'm guessing the first two tracks are the Hair Police set. (The HP/WE sets were on one ticket.)

(I know milton posted a gesualdo track before but still, i went off to look for more...so here's one for those who missed it)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 7 October 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

finally saw Herzog's 'Gesualdo: Death in Five Voices' last week. bought three more recordings of Gesualdo the next morning.

borrowed the Herzog from Drew along with those Tashio Matsumoto films, also had to order my own copy of those...

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 7 October 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

& before I forget!

KI or BREATHING - Toru Takemitsu soundtrack of Toshio Matsumoto film, 1980

for tape & orchestra, other pieces of his I can calmly appreciate but this one goes deep. it's a transfer from the DVD so it's a bit noisy

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 7 October 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Gracious - Super Nova: Arrival of the Traveller, Blood Red Sun, What's Come to Be,. 20 minute freaky prog, proto-metal, funky, vocal harmonies, church organ. amazing

& here's some rock (I wish the last half of this went on for an hour)

Ground Zero - Across The Sky / At Last I Am Free / Across The Stars

from Ground Zero's remix of Cassiber's Live in Tokyo. been going through all their records this week, my god they were good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 10 October 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Donimique (or whomever), which area records should i get? i have the options to get Caution Radiation Area (1974) & Maledetti (1976). are either of them like that track you posted? that was pretty rad. from what i read, i thought they were gonna be sorta Henry Cow-esque. like really angular, classical music stuff (or am i thinking of Univers Zero), but this was more like a loose, synthy Magma.

Dickset! Dickset! Disckset! (jaxon), Monday, 10 October 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Hey Julio, where'd you get that long Woman in the Dunes from? The one I have on the Nonesuch comp is 6.43.

Brakhage (brakhage), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

the track I posted is from Crac! (1974), which i think is the most easily approachable Area record if you haven't heard any. After that, I'd go for Caution Radiation Area (also 74), and then the underrated Gli Dei Se Ne Vanno (1978). Maledetti is good, but a bit more experimental. Their debut Arbeit Macht Frei is good, but actually too "prog" to me, I like more experimental and fusiony stuff in Area.

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

oops sorry abt that I mislabelled the takemitsu! that track ws reserved for 'rikyu' (both movies by the same dir). the track listing to both the nonesuch disc and the takemitsu film vol 4 disc are to be found here:

http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=46186

you'll also note that the comp has a slightly longer 'woman of the dunes' (nearly 10 mins).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Ah, I got you. The Rikyu you uploaded is six min. longer than the one on the Nonesuch.

Brakhage (brakhage), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah I have a few the nonesuch and a few tracks from film vol 4, rikyu being one of them.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I have all of the nonesuch, i mean...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Gotcha. Hey, maybe with all this YSIing we can compile our own Takemitsu musique concrete compilation.

Fosen - track 1 from NNC (1996)

heavenly drone/ambience from Norwegian band called Fosen (I think). I'd love any info anyone has on this, since I've never been able to locate a website or review.

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

haha yeah I guess so - that takemitsu concrete wd surely be more than one disc - been looking round that webpage. this wd be a marvellous thing to reissue

and this is plain old-skool barmy, mid-70s barmy-ness though I've not seen it being talked about on ilm.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Dominique, I get a 'server error' on the Fosen ... YSI may clear it up later perhaps

Brakhage (brakhage), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

oops, try http://s30.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=16HAM180LXB6N0X1YP6YOAPY20

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Julio, there isn't very much Takemitsu in print is there? Except in Japan I suppose.

This guy thinks 'Fosen' is the name of the CD: http://www.discogs.com/release/188420

Brakhage (brakhage), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

ha, yeah and I've also read that it's a self-titled record by the band Fosen on a label called NNC. I wish I knew who it was!

Anenzephalia - die sender müssen schweigen (side 1)

Good timing with the thread revival ... I'd been meaning to post this track. I was browsing somebody's slsk folder and they had a lot of good noise and ambient. I figured their taste was reliable so I d/l'ed this despite having never heard of the record or the artist. There's a huge Anenzephalia catalogue on Discogs -- can anybody recommend some of his other releases?
