Smart cars are everywhere in Oxford/London. I think you get one when you qualify as an estate agent.

"Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the the dummy's head were high when it hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would also be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was negligible.

judging a car by how it looks ls like judging a foodstuff on how it feels when rubbed against your bottom
― Granny Dainger, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:19 (fifteen years ago) link
wtf cmon that is not true at all - aesthetics is not absent from car judgement in any way

This is true of pretty much all modern cars. The right rear passenger door on my Dodge truck is completely fucked because I let my grandfather back it around a corner and he went up against a very stumpy bush. At maybe 5mph A BUSH gouged two big dents in the door.
I think maybe the ease of totalling them actually has something to do with why they're safer, actually? Energy transfer, etc..

a smart car almost hit me on my bike today b/c the guy over-shot a stop sign. i didn't really know how to feel. because i have cruelly judged the smart car as generally impotent.

the ease of totalling
i like this phrase
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:19 (fifteen years ago) link
an $11k car is by definition easier to total than one more expensive

you're lucky, if he hit you his car could've been totalled and I doubt you have bike insurance

amazon.com bomb
most spaghetti westerns are analogous to tossing a scorpion into a boxful of fire ants. There's a good chance you'll see an interesting fight or two, but you won't much care who crawls out of the box at the end.
― Edward III, Thursday, 14 August 2008 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link
^^ My neighbor did that all the time when we were kids. He cared enough that he once took a lizard out of the fight, on grounds that it was cute and had no chance.
― nabisco, Thursday, 14 August 2008 23:38 (fifteen years ago) link
Un, I love that truth bomb as much as anybody else, but isn't that just the opening scene of The Wild Bunch? Or does that not detract from its bombitude?
