Bands of gangly, hairy guys named after female models can't afford to play their skronky strain of rock'n'roll here anymore, for fun everyone just goes hopping from atm to starbucks to atm to starbucks

Although tbf there are still *official* fun/quirky things that you can do if you wait five hours in line, like the rain room or the cronut

that's actually a hugely important life lesson bomb that I don't think I understood until at least my late 20s.
― Doritos Loco Parentis (Hurting 2), Friday, 25 April 2014 04:14 (twelve years ago)
Is the lesson that one doesn't understand unconditional love until a parent? Or that it doesn't apply to your other relationships?
― crunchy righteous rojo rings (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 25 April 2014 04:29 (twelve years ago)
the lesson is to be your own parent

it was some shitty Facebook meme i think about dogs or cats giving you unconditional love and a subsequent discussion about a) no they don't, and b) unconditional isn't such a wonderful thing

That's some serious bullshit. Lots of parents are incapable of unconditional love for their children ime, so i don't know how you can say ONLY parents can truly love unconditionally. If you've never experienced unconditional love for anyone but your children, good for you, but don't paint the rest of us with that brush.
― just1n3, Friday, 25 April 2014 15:14 (twelve years ago)
Unconditional love between adults = co-dependency. My love definitely has conditions. Like no beards (also no misogyny or substance addiction, that kind of thing).
― Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 25 April 2014 15:16 (twelve years ago)
this is a moot argument because unconditional love doesn't exist

Just cos some parents dont do well at the UL doesnt mean that it exists elsewhere (nor there, even) but iirc the ilx discussion we p much decided it was a toxic concept

ime unconditional love is unconditional only within reasonable conditions
either that or you are capable of conflicting emotions like "I really will always love her, even if I will never see her again because she's in prison for stabbing me 37 times"
― a strange man (mh), Friday, 25 April 2014 15:38 (twelve years ago)
i am yet to come across a condition that's tested my love for my children, i'm guessing a lot of people have the same experience - unconditionalness is a hypothetical most of the time
― you poll a lot, but you're not saying anything (Noodle Vague), Friday, 25 April 2014 15:39 (twelve years ago)
I learned to love myself unconditionally / Because I am a queenNo matter what I'm wearing I will always be / India Arie
― wat is teh waht (s.clover), Friday, 25 April 2014 15:40 (twelve years ago)
"the same experience" = not limiting that to a relationship with yr kids. just saying that plenty of loving relationships probly never get tested to the point of finding out where the conditions lie
― you poll a lot, but you're not saying anything (Noodle Vague), Friday, 25 April 2014 15:40 (twelve years ago)
