Yeah that was going around my law(l) office. I feel like it would have been just fine if they made it a little less "dramatic" because the dialogue kind of speaks for itself.
I've been at depos where we spent like 30 minutes trying to establish a person's basic employment history with a company, like just as a preliminary matter, because we'll ask him "how long did you hold that position" and he'll be like "when you say 'that position'" etc.

Depositions are actually kind of miserable experiences, and 90% of the ones I've been at have this "forget about it Jake, it's Chinatown" because it's so hard to get a coached dude to admit anything.

doing cross examinations was pretty fun from what i remember. there you can pull out all sorts of fun tricks to trip people up. depositions look miserable as hell. sometimes i wonder if I should finally practice law, if it's not already too late.

According to partners I work with, you also don't always ask the questions you really want to ask because there's too much risk it will give them a chance to give testimony that cuts against you, which is really frustrating.

the only people I ever cross examined were idiots, so I'm sure that helped. one lady decided to tell this really long story that made the defense look amazing, except that she was talking about a totally unrelated event. so I just let her rattle on for about 5 minutes before dropping that bomb, and the judge totally lost it on her.

and I'm also talking about administrative court, so it wasn't tightly regulated or as high-stakes. I hope it isn't too late to get back into law, I haven't had anything to do with it since I graduated in '11 and it was far more enjoyable than what I'm doing now. grass is greener, I guess.
