Williamsburg brother

, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:12 (ten years ago) link

washington heights is in manhattan but very far from the parts of manhattan you are likely wanting to visit

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:16 (ten years ago) link

if you dont want to pay manhattan prices just stay in brooklyn like dayo said

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:17 (ten years ago) link

Accepting all info with gratitude and an open heart and mind but it must be presented in turn to an fierce ogre whose thought process consists only of the word MANHATTAN repeated over and over

is this semi-amateurism? (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link

manhattan, a mere ten miles away from the manhattan you wish to be in

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:27 (ten years ago) link

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:27 (ten years ago) link

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:33 (ten years ago) link

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 16:33 (ten years ago) link

Here ya go dmac http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan,_Kansas

There's another borough called Queens, that's close to midtown but cheaper. But a lot of the locations are really shitty. If you like ethnic foods it's good. If it's cheaper than Brooklyn it's good. It's easy to get to brooklyn. Unless the G train isn't running. Which is often.

dan selzer, Sunday, 12 January 2014 17:42 (ten years ago) link

queens is the new brooklyn, by which we can logically infer that brooklyn is the new manhattan, ergo you can stay in brooklyn (new manhattan)

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 17:45 (ten years ago) link

There's another borough called Queens

?

never heard of it

mookieproof, Sunday, 12 January 2014 18:10 (ten years ago) link

Washington Heights is lovely IMO but yeah, depending what you're trying to do you'll spend a LOT of your visit commuting. Like if you go out for an evening in Williamsburg or something hep and fresh like that, it'll be an hour to get down there - - - and then possibly 90-120 minutes to get back as the good trains don't run frequently late at night. Worth thinking about. It's not so bad for Manhattan sight-seeing, and you're well-placed for some more forgotten/out of the way destinations like the Cloisters/Fort Tryon Park which is totally lovely, but not a "must do" if you only have a couple days in New York! I think you're better off looking for Airbnb places in, like, Fort Greene - sleep in a cute brownstone on a pretty street, paying Holiday Inn prices, and a short jaunt to nightlife and tourist activities in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

and you're well-placed for some a more forgotten/out of the way destination like the Cloisters/Fort Tryon Park

fixed

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 18:15 (ten years ago) link

Well, okay, and stuff in the Bronx and Harlem! They play baseball somewhere up there I think.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 12 January 2014 18:19 (ten years ago) link

There's no help until everyone knows WHERE in manhattan your ogre friend considers manhattan.

dan selzer, Sunday, 12 January 2014 18:31 (ten years ago) link

show the ogre this map

is this semi-amateurism? (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:26 (ten years ago) link

Lots of Irish people in queens too, dmac.

mizzell, Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:28 (ten years ago) link

queens seems to suffer from a dearth of non-airport hotels, although there are a few in LIC I think, which is very convenient to both manhattan and brooklyn

also Flushing if you want to stay in the "real" Chinatown

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:30 (ten years ago) link

That's strictly for experts

, Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:45 (ten years ago) link

I actually thought about telling my parents to stay in Flushing because there are nice clean hotels there and it's so close by. Last time they stayed in Jersey City which makes no fucking sense.

If I was a good son though I'd just buy an air mattress and we'd sleep in the living room and give them our room.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:48 (ten years ago) link

makes no fucking sense except being 1/2 price of manhattan, I mean

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:48 (ten years ago) link

no one shd stay in hotels when theres airbnb

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:51 (ten years ago) link

i think my parents are too old and set in their ways to airbnb

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 January 2014 20:56 (ten years ago) link

man once you get a sweet ass apt for less than a hotel theres no goin back, there are even ones thatre defacto hotels that don't have anyones weird stuff in them cause no one lives there

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:01 (ten years ago) link

wait what you stay in peoples homes, and meet them? eugh weird

is this semi-amateurism? (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:03 (ten years ago) link

no you don't meet them but its often someone's apt and they are not there but there stuff is

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:07 (ten years ago) link

although some people do rent out rooms so they are there

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:08 (ten years ago) link

but then theres lots that are strictly airbnb

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:08 (ten years ago) link

well maybe u meet them when they give u the keys

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:09 (ten years ago) link

tho some people use managers for that

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:09 (ten years ago) link

sometimes there's just a Keybox w a code tho prob not so much in ny

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:10 (ten years ago) link

didn't NYC crack down on airbnb recently?

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:24 (ten years ago) link

btw it looks like the Wyndham in LIC is like 100ish a night. Pretty good.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 January 2014 21:24 (ten years ago) link

tons of hotels in LIC and Flushing, some even in walking distance to some kind of transportation and or culture. But BEWARE, many LIC area hotels in really terrible areas really far from everything and offer no help other than being halfway between LAG and Manhattan.

dan selzer, Sunday, 12 January 2014 22:03 (ten years ago) link

What if you get one close to the 7

You're just one stop away from Grand Central then

Bet they're expensive though
