morbs what critics voting guild syndcate thingy are you a part of?
An unimportant one that only crowns Oscary movies, or worse (the chick in Inglourious Basterds won best actress one year).
what's goin on at FMU? Recfair ain't til following weekend.
― eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 18:48 (twelve years ago)
No MBV for me, sorry. Just saw that Jonathan Richman is playing next week at the Bowery Ballroom, thinking about trying to go to that. If he does "Foggy Notion" or even "Velvet Underground" might lose it though.
― Pazz & Jop 1280 (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 19:43 (twelve years ago)
I actually didn't get MBV tickets myself (wasn't sure at last minute because I had to delay the trip out a couple days). Am thinking of heading up there to see if I can get a scalped one.
Wooden Shjips are also in town I see.
― Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 22:34 (twelve years ago)
I went to the MBV last night and there will definitely be scalpers at the door + people who maybe just lost a member of their party on the way over

Am here now, lagged and awake very early. Got in late last night and had a beer in that Spuyten Duyvil place, nice little bar. Went to Fette Sau cos it was across the road, lol obvious tourists.
Fette Sau was okay, food was a bit cold, room was a bit cold too, I figure it's more a summer place? I had seen kinda mixed reviews.
Might go to some museums today, and attempt to stay out later tonight. And also buy a wooly hat.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Thursday, 14 November 2013 12:59 (twelve years ago)
you're in luck, forecast through the weekend has the temp going into the mid 60s
― 乒乓, Thursday, 14 November 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)
So loop me in if anyone makes up plans, eh? I'm going to a meeting tonight in my neighborhood but Fri/Sat/Sun are currently open. LG, do you have a phone you're using here? Or is email best?
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 14 November 2013 13:08 (twelve years ago)
Yep I have my phone, +44 seven five, 22453843. I'm pretty open to ideas, there's a few friends staying near me but we've no real schedule, maybe a beer at the weekend... I'll go wherever suits others.
I'll prob see a play next week if anyone is into that... not checked what's on yet tho.

I might take in Mike Kelley on Friday too...in fact, that is kinda the main purpose of my visit.
― Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Thursday, 14 November 2013 13:47 (twelve years ago)
i love fette sau but yeah i guess its better in summer when you can eat outside
― max, Thursday, 14 November 2013 14:58 (twelve years ago)
i wanna go to x-tg / mike kelley in january
― am0n, Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)
my fette sau experience is having discount sliders + bourbon w/ ian after 11pm.
I am crazed for the next 4 weeks with end-of-year film bullshit; I would go to the theuhtuh if anyone had told me about this goddamn Beckett radio play that is now probably sold out after the Times rave yesterday.
oh cept i am seeing the Mekons doc tom'w night at 9:45 so i guess it doesn't matter if i get drunk first.
― eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:47 (twelve years ago)
Yeah with Fette Sau I think we arrived p late so I guess the stuff was a bit cold as they reach the end. The short rib was amazing but a bit hotter would have been good.
I missed that Beckett thing in London too, I'll take a look and see about tickets tho.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

Went to MoMA today, wasn't prepared for how amazing it was, dunno if it's my frame of mind this year but it was amazing.
In Proletariat on St Marks Place now, p amazing beers.

So one thing I notice so far is that bars are kind of quiet? Do people tend not to go out midweek? Maybe London is just more over-crowded without as many good bars...
Basing that on a fairly wide "research sample" last night.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Friday, 15 November 2013 16:45 (twelve years ago)
Were you in brooklyn or manhattan
― 乒乓, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:45 (twelve years ago)
apparently the EV
I guess people do not go out midweek as much since everyone is either working or broke in NYC now.
― eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Friday, 15 November 2013 16:49 (twelve years ago)
fewer ppl out when its cold and dark too
― max, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:56 (twelve years ago)
Seems like it doesn't stop people in London
― 乒乓, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:57 (twelve years ago)
You see what I did there
Go out in my own neighborhood when I can. Still haven't seen actually talked to ilxor Virginia Plain although once I was checking in while she was checking out as it were.

I was in EV and Wburg, there were people around but not much more than a dozen in any bar we were in apart from one EV one. I guess London is more overcrowded, maybe just diff relationship with alcohol.
xposts

All night p much, got back to Brooklyn about midnight. Got home about 4am.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Friday, 15 November 2013 17:26 (twelve years ago)
east village can definitely be kinda dead on weeknights sometimes especially if NYU's not in session (it is right now though). it ebbs and flows though. place I used to DJ at would be packed for happy hour, then empty for a few hours, then packed again at midnight.
williamsburg I'm a little more surprised about.
― dmr, Friday, 15 November 2013 17:27 (twelve years ago)
yeah idk bars are generally not empty on thurs night, im going w the sudden cold theory
