also if you're not changing your script and just getting a a new pair, you can just ask any shop in chinatown to copy your old pair

乒乓, Friday, 18 October 2013 17:48 (twelve years ago)

i need a new prescription i think

afaict these old school places don't give you the full prescription including PD here even if you buy their specs

warby parker glasses are all too small for my colossal cranium (really, i feel like they would shatter if i clenched my jaw), but i figure they will give me the Rx to take to fabulous fanny's or whatever.

caek, Friday, 18 October 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

fab fannys just sells frames, you then take them to some shops in Chinatown they recommend, the Chinatown shops will then ship your stuff to china and you'll get it back in like 2 weeks

hah pd, you could just ask a trusted friend to measure that for you w a ruler. i got my script updated over the summer and they had a fancy gizmo that did everything iirc

乒乓, Friday, 18 October 2013 19:12 (twelve years ago)

I want to say that the packing slip from my glasses or contacts had the PD on it once

mh, Friday, 18 October 2013 19:45 (twelve years ago)

fab fanny's frames are ~100$ right? we're not talking 300$ frames, are we?

caek, Friday, 18 October 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)

yeah that's about right, though they have more expensive options as well

乒乓, Friday, 18 October 2013 20:05 (twelve years ago)

they're literally vintage frames, so it depends on what they have on hand at any given moment. but most frames are priced very reasonably iirc

乒乓, Friday, 18 October 2013 20:11 (twelve years ago)

i am also going to the LES to try to buy a 2nd hand bike tomorrow, so my transformation is almost complete

caek, Friday, 18 October 2013 20:17 (twelve years ago)

I'm in North Carolina on vacation, but I just want to mention that I used the classic fab fannys/optical 88 combo. $75 for frames, $75 for light prescription lenses. Done in an hour.

I go to New York for two weeks in mid-November. What's happening?

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 18 October 2013 20:35 (twelve years ago)

localgarda and cozen are in town and we are doubtless going for beers

caek, Friday, 18 October 2013 20:46 (twelve years ago)

lag∞n, Saturday, 19 October 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

Everyone go to New York.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 20 October 2013 00:44 (twelve years ago)

Also there's this funny story in which I thought caek was saying that LG and cozen were here NOW and they were going out last night. It seemed like the other group I was with should meet up with them so I tried that but turned into this big mistaken identity thing and then I texted caek at like 11.30 to find he didn't even mean now.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 20 October 2013 00:46 (twelve years ago)

Okay it wasn't actually that funny. A little funny, though, definitely.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 20 October 2013 00:51 (twelve years ago)

Can't wait for November. I'm there 13-23rd.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Sunday, 20 October 2013 00:57 (twelve years ago)

i was there. it was pretty fun.

caek, Sunday, 20 October 2013 04:56 (twelve years ago)

i thought it was funny, one time i tried to txt ian but instead i txtd this guy in chicago named ian and there was much confusion lol

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 October 2013 12:41 (twelve years ago)

november is a deece month in ny unless tbh. wife's family coming to visit for three weeks, getting here in two days. there are kids. should be fun.

ian, Monday, 21 October 2013 22:23 (twelve years ago)

We should all go see tylerw's band on the 1st

Admin is dead, e/t is permitted (Jon Lewis), Monday, 21 October 2013 22:47 (twelve years ago)

i want to do that but that is the weekend we're taking helen's family to visit my family in RI :(

ian, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 00:06 (twelve years ago)

Wait, what are the coordinates of tyler's band playing? Of course I will be disappointed if ian cannot go but...

Sodade Stereo (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 00:54 (twelve years ago)

i think it's at union pool in williamsburger.

ken, did i tell you how much i enjoyed the Gene Kerrigan book you gave me? so much so that now i'm reading all his other stuff i can get my hands on.

ian, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 03:12 (twelve years ago)

Yes union pool

Admin is dead, e/t is permitted (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 03:45 (twelve years ago)

Dates finalized... I'll be in NYC from Nov. 8 to the 20th.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 10:21 (twelve years ago)

are dogs and cats a hipster essential in nyc? almost every apt on airbnb has a dog or a cat. nobody i know in london has one.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 21:43 (twelve years ago)

dogs and cats are v popular in usa altogether iirc

lag∞n, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 21:48 (twelve years ago)

yes single people have pets here and it's considered not weird

caek, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

The one catch is that nobody spends any time with their dogs and cats. New York must have the highest per capita rate of roommates driven batty by lunatic cats starved for attention by their inattentive masters (who imagine themselves as doting pet-lovers when it comes time for Instagram).

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 22:03 (twelve years ago)

strange that all the apartments allow them too, i reckon most places ban them here.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

we have four cats fyi

ian, Thursday, 24 October 2013 01:54 (twelve years ago)

I have lived this.

Wasn't judging btw...

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Thursday, 24 October 2013 06:23 (twelve years ago)

so i'm staying on grand st/bushwick ave in an airbnb i got around there.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Friday, 25 October 2013 14:01 (twelve years ago)

that's a good spot. grand st is my favorite part of williamsburg, it has kept some of the old puerto rican flavor mixed with newer stuff. kinda feels like the mission in SF a little bit.
Grand Morelos has good Mexican food in a open all nite diner setting, you got Huckleberry for fancy cocktails and snacks, Carmine's on graham has good pizza, Daddy's and Harefield Road are nice bars.

I hope our coach wears the pants and resigns (mizzell), Friday, 25 October 2013 14:18 (twelve years ago)

yeah it was a bit pricier to be around there but reckon it's worth it.

Admin is dead, e/t is permitted (Jon Lewis), Friday, 25 October 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

that's going to come in handy i think, judging by the type of trip i'm planning.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Saturday, 26 October 2013 14:01 (twelve years ago)

any of you going to dj harvey on the 16th of november? am considering it.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Thursday, 31 October 2013 14:57 (twelve years ago)

ask a silly question, but can anyone recommend a driving school in manhattan or brooklyn? don't care about the quality of instruction (i'm an excellent driver an excellent driver), i just want it to be painless

caek, Monday, 4 November 2013 05:09 (twelve years ago)

this is just for the 5h bullshit course + the test and maybe an hour before the test of driving around

caek, Monday, 4 November 2013 05:09 (twelve years ago)

So...Elvis T is here now, Local Garda arrives on the 13th, and I don't know when cozen gets here. Anyone? Anyone else?? gbx???

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 8 November 2013 19:51 (twelve years ago)

I'll look into it

gbx, Friday, 8 November 2013 19:53 (twelve years ago)
