max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

great ny noodletown or shanghai 456 are better "institutions" both in terms of quality and price, i think

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

or russ and daughters if you want good ny jewish food

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

There are so many dumb reasons why lots of great places can't win Michelin as to discredit it really.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 16:32 (twelve years ago)

Thanks for these Max, really helpful.

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:33 (twelve years ago)

katz pastrami is pretty great if kinda wildly expensive imho, like i wouldnt make a destination out of it but if you happen to be drunk and nearby and ready to house a big pile of meat then by all means

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:34 (twelve years ago)

ippudo is like a million times better than momofuku in like every way imho if you want ramen, and really you shd

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:36 (twelve years ago)

With craft beer and stuff I'm guessing that it's just kind of omnipresent like London? Here there's no real need to go to a bar specifically for whatever beer as many have local good stuff or big tap selections anyhow.

I was in NY before but it was about 06, literally my only interest at this time was techno.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

when i have ppl in town i usually take them to like great ny noodletown and either otto or co., all of which are terrific, not too expensive restaurants that you can usually get a table at pretty quickly and are also like, "new york food" i.e. chinese/pizza

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

i prefer momofuku ssam to the noodlebar if you want to do momofuku

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

also ippudo and all the big ramen places are fucking impossible to get tables at unless you eat at like 5p

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

great ny noodletown or shanghai 456 are better "institutions" both in terms of quality and price, i think

they're both 'fine' but great ny noodletown is kind of a greasy spoon diner, and shanghai asia manor has better shanghainese food

乒乓, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:47 (twelve years ago)

also ronan like basically anything in the tarlow empire is really good for a slightly nicer "brooklyn" restaurant experience. romans is my favorite but reynard and diner are also top notch imo

max, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:47 (twelve years ago)

also have you been to szechuan gourmet yet, its p rad

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 16:51 (twelve years ago)

you people sure like food. i frankly don't get it, there are foreign films out there.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 October 2013 16:52 (twelve years ago)

not food related, but if anyone's in the commonwealth zone tomorrow night I'll be djing late in the back room of a sort of crappy bar across the street called fifth estate
(for a friend's birthday, but it's totally just a bar with a back room where anyone should come hang out... I'll play good tunes)

chinavision!, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

Reynard's is pretty good. that corner of Wythe is an interesting cluster of nu-fancy Williamsburg stuff (Wythe Hotel, Brooklyn Bowl, Kinfolk etc.)

(interesting or appalling depending on your POV, personally I think the Ides - 6th floor bar in the Wythe, sick Manhattan skyline view - is kinda cool but I know a lot of people probably hate all that stuff)

dmr, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:56 (twelve years ago)

bar across the street called fifth estate

julian assange theme bar?

I might be able to swing by, depending

dmr, Friday, 4 October 2013 16:57 (twelve years ago)

乒乓, Friday, 4 October 2013 17:01 (twelve years ago)

julian assange theme bar?

last wkend there was a "WikiLeaks Mobile Information Gathering Center" parked a block from my apt in wburg, basically a converted U Haul with a satellite dish sticking out the side of the cab

play on, El Chugadero, play on (Jon Lewis), Friday, 4 October 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

ha yeah I have seen that thing. was parked around Zucotti a lot during OWS.

dmr, Friday, 4 October 2013 17:06 (twelve years ago)

ah shoot. would have been a good 'brooklyn experience'

xxp

chinavision!, Friday, 4 October 2013 17:07 (twelve years ago)
