^TMI

I thought comedy left radio when Jack Benny moved to TV.

lol America

top of the head, the main pieces of Partridge history go:
radio series
TV series
radio series
TV series
TV special
stage
stage
TV series
(long gap)
TV series
(really long gap)
stage
[the Gibbons brothers arrive, Cooganucci grab a tiger by the tail and hold on gleefully]
web series -> TV series
prose / audiobook (slight differences in content for format)
2 different TV specials (one major one minor, a week apart)
TV series
feature film

whoops should be

radio series
radio special
radio series

at the start. second "stage" might also be out of place. I've been meaning to work this out properly for years and do a chronological rescreen.

OK so I probably need to look at my schedule, but my guess it will probably be a pretty late one Friday or Saturday? I'm at the festival pretty much every day from early afternoon until 10-11ish...

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 11:06 (twelve years ago)

there's a bar on 4th Ave full of Oakland fans ideal for a late-night A's game. :)

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 12:24 (twelve years ago)

Truly, that sounds...ideal. Perhaps they will show Sunderland v. Man Utd too

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 12:43 (twelve years ago)

j/k, i am amenable to whatever doesn't get you lost btwn Lincoln Center and Fort Greene. The A's bar is manic during games anyway.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 October 2013 21:10 (twelve years ago)

Hi I'm in your Fort Greene. I like this Fort - I recognized the block from Dave Chapelle's Block Party and that was exciting. I walked around a bit and it was not at all as douchey as I expected. What's good to see in the neighborhood?

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:56 (twelve years ago)

well the BAM opera house dates from the 19th century, but you can't go in yet.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:00 (twelve years ago)

any of these streets betwen myrtle and atlantic: vanderbilt, clinton, waverly, washington

max, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:45 (twelve years ago)

just for checking out old brownstones and pratt family mansions

max, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

fort greene park

max, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

my fav house is the giant brick one w a green tile roof and a spire on clinton just north of dekalb

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:49 (twelve years ago)

ft greene doesnt have really any like major destinations, its just nice to stroll around in

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:49 (twelve years ago)

Yes it is some good walking. I am near Grand and errr, Fulton? Like I said, I never been to Brookyln before. I see why people like it!

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:56 (twelve years ago)

yeah the whole greater downtown brooklyn area aka brownstone brooklyn is quite pleasant and nice to look at

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:58 (twelve years ago)

I was being a little facetious with the douchey comment, everything I know about Brookyln comes from ILX and the NYT Style section. This neighborhood reminds me a little of my old hood in LA, maybe max knows what I mean? Although when I left, that place was way more annoying than it used to be. People here seem pretty relaxed, everyone seems pretty young though. I guess just a few months in Western Mass has turned me into kind of a bumpkin after spending my whole life in cities!

It made me look at this set of photos by Danny Lyon, evocative
http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-brooklyn-19070s-2011-6?op=1

Anyway, guess I should get out...

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)

how would this area be to stay?

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Varet+St,+Brooklyn,+NY+11206,+United+States&hl=en&sll=51.48931,-0.08819&sspn=0.500229,1.352692&hnear=Varet+St,+Brooklyn,+Kings,+New+York+11206,+United+States&t=m&z=16

i feel pretty relaxed about safety etc but my friend is a mildly concerned. if i do get killed i'd like it to be an authentic experience.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 12:59 (twelve years ago)

is a mildly concerned party

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 12:59 (twelve years ago)

Uhhh I think it's completely fine, although possibly a little noisy on the street? I'm not familiar w that immediate block but surrounding area is fine.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 13:02 (twelve years ago)

It's not really the nicest place, though. Dingy, cheap stores and fried food joints iirc. And Woodhull hospital, just in case.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)

For the tourist experience of Brooklyn, you probably don't want to be staying directly across from a project, really. Couldn't you find something in Fort Greene?

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 13:10 (twelve years ago)

yeah that place would be fine safety-wise but it's ugly and unpleasant. if you're really talking right where varet street meets bushwick.

if you're talking a few blocks east though then that's sort of a hot spot

chinavision!, Friday, 4 October 2013 13:11 (twelve years ago)

It seems quite near to stuff I guess. I'm kinda okay with spending a bit more but my friend is a bit less so, Airbnb in NYC is quite expensive, obviously. That one is quite cheap and the place looks decent for the price.

xpost yeah there are a lot of places - lots of choice.

xxpost i think that's the exact location.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 13:12 (twelve years ago)

yeah it's just bushwick ave itself that's kind of a dump really. the other end of varet street, at bogart, is kind of a main corridor for hipster bushwick stuff.

chinavision!, Friday, 4 October 2013 13:16 (twelve years ago)

that and boar's head distribution centers and warehouses

chinavision!, Friday, 4 October 2013 13:17 (twelve years ago)

The important thing is, Brooklyn!

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 13:52 (twelve years ago)

brooklyn is cool

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 13:52 (twelve years ago)

ah yeah we are only looking in brooklyn. staying for ten days so like a small increase in price per night has an effect - but i see quite good places for about 50-60 a night.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)

That's so cheap! If I had an extra room I would totally do that!

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 14:28 (twelve years ago)

it seems to be a really popular thing to do. as i mentioned upthread, before airbnb mysteriously stopped syncing with my facebook, it was showing me a lot of the prospective places were run by friends of ilxors i am friends with on fb, like yourself.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 14:54 (twelve years ago)

i have a friend who rents her place on canal out but i think its p expensive plus ew canal

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 15:01 (twelve years ago)

you can stay in my kitchen if you like

caek, Friday, 4 October 2013 15:03 (twelve years ago)

do you have an air mattress, and are you capable of making coffee without spilling any on the guy on the air mattress?

if airbnb existed when I left ny and I kept my place I would be so rich right now omg regrets

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 15:07 (twelve years ago)

I have an air mattress. I'll loan it to caek for a cut of the take.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:09 (twelve years ago)

xp Yes and no, you need someone to be here to do the laundry and clean and give the keys to the next ppl tho. Literally I may end up doing this for a friend w a swank apt if she decides to go that route.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:10 (twelve years ago)

btw the Commonwealth bar in Pk Slope is having their annual lobster boil Sunday, 4:30-8, $20.

We went last year but I will be unable to get there (Film Fest) til 6:30, but I think I can still get a lobster then. If you wanna go, say so here. We can send an email w/ a number (by Sat night) and you can start eating before me.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:13 (twelve years ago)

I think I have to pass this year--I know! Booooo!--but like everything at Commonwealth, this promises to be a good time.

ya u can pay people to do it, there are those who specialize in it im sure

lag∞n, Friday, 4 October 2013 15:22 (twelve years ago)

i was gonna ask as well, and it's way in advance of me getting there in 5/6 weeks, but for finding bars and restaurants, besides asking you all, what website is good or is it just twitter?

i know all the sort of hipstery names that people mention in london (or rip off for london restaurants) eg pok pok, a few of the bbq places, mission, and some other like spotted pig in the slightly higher end. some of these look interesting, others less so.

i know it's a gargantuan world of stuff but pretty interested in going to some new cool places but also more eternal institution places, again some of which i've read about, eg katz's deli. i like the vibe of modern restaurants that have been good for a long time, like st john in london.

i just know in london if you arrived and went off buzz you'd only be at good places about half the time.

i read a few sites like serious eats and stuff anyway but i need a lot of info before i trust a place!

also the same with bars, if there are places that are really brilliant favourites or whatever.

xpost caek if you could write these up and put them in your kitchen for when i arrive that'd be ideal.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)

Ask the ppl in the Queens thread about fancy restaurants, we mostly drink cheap beer and eat whatever snacks are free at the bar.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)

all the more reason to get an airbnb going

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

for mission, you'll need to book a week in advance if you don't want to wait in line. my firend told me of a special way to do it painlessly but i don't recall off hand

乒乓, Friday, 4 October 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

btw if anyone knows of a bar right near where admrl is staying, give it, bcz we can't make him do the work.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:52 (twelve years ago)

Where is he again?

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:53 (twelve years ago)

i am in all seriousness subletting my 1bed for xmas if anyone knows anyone who would be interested

caek, Friday, 4 October 2013 15:53 (twelve years ago)

I dunno! He and I are attending the same film fest and can't make our schedules jibe. xp

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 October 2013 15:53 (twelve years ago)

LG, you can check out nymag's dining section http://nymag.com/restaurants/?f=food for a non-yelp alternative

but yeah there's a ton of stuff and it'll probably just come down to what's good around where you're staying or whatever you're seeing. it also gets expensive p quick if you wanna really sample 'fine dining' or even moderately-priced-but-still-tasty dining. though maybe compared to UK prices you'll feel okay
