has anyone fucked w citi bike

i did it for a week. was not bad, i kind of meant to sign up for the full year but ive been lazy and out of town

seems like itd be cool for one way trips and not having to worry abt where to put a bike

what happens when you pull up to a station but all the spots are full

does it tell u where the closest other citiracks are

yeah, theres a map on all of them, theyre mostly just like 2 blocks away, plus if you have the app you can look ahead of time

it was really useful basically to take from a block away from my apt to a better train. could see it being good for tooling around brooklyn too tho there arent any stations south of atlantic yet

but i was thinking it would be really perfect for going from my apt to like williamsburg eg

its also a heavy bike. i rode it from my office in soho all the way back to ft greene one day, the bridge wasnt too bad but ft greene is on a dang hill and the last few blocks were too much

what do you all think about where to stay for a 10-day holiday? i'm thinking like brooklyn or whatever and will prob stay with a friend there for some days and then airbnb it, so i could see some diff parts of the city. i don't want to just go to hipsterville for the sake of it but i suppose i'm likely to want to spend time in that sort of place, for good beer/restaurants/clubs/record stores, so maybe brooklyn is best.

beyond those limited interests i am sure there is tons of shit i want to see but don't really know where to start, last time i came was 2006 and i didn't really have a sense of my interests besides techno...

part of me just tends to consider seeing a city as going out a lot v late.

really conscious of me not having a clue about size/centres etc in my above post.

i mean i kinda hate to say it but for all those things + easy access to more of those things, williamsburg probably is your best bet? no clue what an airbnb room will run you

For pleasanter street experiences tbh I wld say try to stay in Fort Greene, you can cab it to Wburg from there easily/cheaply and it's nicer walking around, but ymmv.

ft greene is the most beautiful and mellow, e village approximates some sort of lost ny gritty artiness, w village is realistically representative of new yorks current gilded age, williamsburg is a disgusting avatar for global youth culture: these are my recomendations

walking around in ft greene (my hood!) or c hill is great but the restaurants/bars aren't as good tho maybe cheaper

or you could just drape a tarp over two citibikes

not just great, probably the best two hoods to walk around in the city

i had a look at airbnb, there were some entire places for about £100 a night, i think, and a friend is coming with me. we just don't want to crash with my friend who lives there for the entire ten days, bit much.

there are loads of places in the east village, which seems like it'd be a decent base. bit more expensive but not massively so. there aren't loads of airbnb options in williamsburg from what i could see.

it's pricey for airbnb but i'm guessing still way cheaper than any other option.

as a recent tourist, if east village places are affordable then i would go there. i airbnbed in clinton hill last year and it was great, and i would love to live there, but i'd been to new york several times and had a hunch i would be moving here soon, so i wasn't necessarily looking for The City. if you wantnew york 101 and you like food, bars, etc. then the e village is a good bet.

ya if you want to be in the shit prob stay in the e village if you want to be some place nicer but more peripheral but not that peripheral + w access to all the trains stay in ft greene

I suggest either Yonkers, Scarsdale or connecticutt

e village and w'burg also among the best people-watching in the city, which is all i ever really want to do anyway

yeah east village seems to have a lot more airbnb options. bout 120 a night which between two isn't bad.

there are actually loads of places in wburg if i/we share with people - and they're cheaper. kinda tempted to roll the dice on this and ruin my holiday see what happens.

it might be kinda fun to try and figure out which of the shared places like to party

williamsburg is a pretty good option -- I'd actually stay there over the east village personally, not a big fan of the east village. OTOH back when I lived there there were often weekend L train problems, which kind of strands you in Brooklyn. Don't know if that has died down.

If you get stranded just go north and enjoy pierogis and borscht it's nbd

if you stay in the East Village you will probably get a tiny shoebox bedroom. All of the apartments in the East Village are like that. All of them.

hilarious the amount of wburg places on airbnb that say "a retreat for artists" etc - like europeans booking their holiday dreaming they're going to finally make that sculpture they've been seeing every day through the holes in the excel spreadsheet.

Yeah it seemed like every time I ate at a friend's place in the EV you'd have to get up from the table so the person next you could get over to the bathroom. If they were gutsy enough to use a bathroom that was three feet from the kitchen table everyone was sitting at.
