has anyone ever taken the M60 bus from the UWS to LGA for an early (like 6am) flight? is it OK?

caek, Thursday, 18 July 2013 17:48 (twelve years ago)

i've never taken that bus, but at that hour (pre-rush hour) i think it should run pretty close to schedule -- busses in NYC, at least the ones I've taken in brooklyn, are pretty good about keeping to schedule.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 18 July 2013 18:46 (twelve years ago)

yeah the schedule seems pretty reliable here based on my upper manhattan experience

caek, Thursday, 18 July 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

the nyc bus system is an amazing resource that everyone forgets exist

iatee, Thursday, 18 July 2013 19:15 (twelve years ago)

generally as a rule of thumb the less frequently a bus runs the closer it comes to on time, but the more frequent buses run so frequently it almost doesnt matter

max, Thursday, 18 July 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)

the only bus line i ever used was cut

yeah i have been here several times before, but this is the first time i've taken the bus, and i'm 100% sure it's because i have a smartphone now that suggests i take the bus.

caek, Thursday, 18 July 2013 20:01 (twelve years ago)

i do what it tells me

caek, Thursday, 18 July 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)

if you memorize relevant bus lines its like a secret pass that can get you places faster sometimes

iatee, Thursday, 18 July 2013 20:03 (twelve years ago)

like if you see a bus on the street already there and know where it's going it might be better than waiting for the subway

iatee, Thursday, 18 July 2013 20:03 (twelve years ago)

will i know the one to get from my place to the dmv/target so i'm basically all set

caek, Thursday, 18 July 2013 20:05 (twelve years ago)

I do this every morning. Saves me a few minutes, let's me potentially catch an earlier train. Most importantly perhaps is that the walk is really not enough of an exertion to count as cardiovascular exercise but it is enough to make me get a little heated from the exertion by the time I get on the platform and train.

otm. Hopstop has really good bus info now, I've been taking the bus a bunch more lately.

dmr, Thursday, 18 July 2013 20:35 (twelve years ago)

Have taken the M60 bus at other times and it runs well in my experience. They recognize that it is an airport conduit. Gotta allow some extra time for vagaries of surface travel regardless.

not that it really affects caek but the m60 in the news recently:

iatee, Friday, 19 July 2013 00:19 (twelve years ago)

The M60 is a godsend on the UWS.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:04 (twelve years ago)

yeah it seems like LGA is actually the easiest airport for me to get to?

caek, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:12 (twelve years ago)

you live somewhere near Columbia right? Newark is pretty easy too from penn station

iatee, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:17 (twelve years ago)

yes lga

mookieproof, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:18 (twelve years ago)

lga looks easiest because no change, ewr next, and it looks like i am never taking an early flight from jfk

caek, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:22 (twelve years ago)

I took the M60 at 4 AM once, it was fine

乒乓, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:24 (twelve years ago)

iirc you have a beard tho, so who knows really

mookieproof, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:28 (twelve years ago)

i do need to figure out the nyc bus system though, waiting around above ground in 100 degree heat > waiting around below ground in 130 degree heat as piss smell effervesces from all around

乒乓, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:36 (twelve years ago)

and when you finally get on a train and you realize that that particular car's a/c is fucked

mookieproof, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:41 (twelve years ago)

yeah I totally jump on buses to avoid the heat

iatee, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:43 (twelve years ago)

i've moderated my beard because of the heat so i should be ok

i took a crosstown bus last night to go to a cinema on the UES (full of old people who talked and clearly couldn't hear the dialogue, typical for the UES i presume?) and after 2 hours in a/c in the cinema and 20 minutes on the bus, i was *freezing*. i got off a few stops early to walk home i was that cold.

caek, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:51 (twelve years ago)

yeah they really crank it up on buses

iatee, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:53 (twelve years ago)

ban caek

mookieproof, Friday, 19 July 2013 03:53 (twelve years ago)

it burns

caek, Friday, 19 July 2013 17:56 (twelve years ago)

There are lots fewer theaters on the UES than 20 years ago, but this is standard on the UWS (Lincoln Plaza etc) for sure.

(at the Film Forum downtown it's sometimes a volume war btwn confused old people and chortling condescending youngsters)

ha, my film director friend refuses to go to either the lincoln plaza or film forum!

(so if anyone wants to join me for computer chess at film forum some time this weekend (not tonight) then let me know!)

i saw fruitvale station on opening night at angelika. that was in probably the worst screening room i've been to in the US. weird long thing layout so you feel like you're looking down the wrong end of a telescope, and subway noise. smelt less mouldy than the E 86th St place though tbf.

i thought landmark was very good though.

caek, Friday, 19 July 2013 18:11 (twelve years ago)

angelika is brutal with the 6 train noise

dmr, Friday, 19 July 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)

yes, Angelika rooms shaped like bowling alleys

someone was shot in the leg at the tapas bar on my corner last night. tough neighbourhood!

caek, Sunday, 21 July 2013 03:40 (twelve years ago)

'neighborhood'

mookieproof, Sunday, 21 July 2013 03:41 (twelve years ago)

is deangulberry still with us? eman/amon?

mookieproof, Sunday, 21 July 2013 03:45 (twelve years ago)

i feel like the u is appropriate when talking about a tapas bar on the UWS

caek, Sunday, 21 July 2013 03:47 (twelve years ago)

perhaps so

mookieproof, Sunday, 21 July 2013 03:52 (twelve years ago)

ok, i have a check. how charming! how do i get it into my bank account as quickly as possible? is it best to give it to a human teller? or can i do it at an atm?

caek, Monday, 22 July 2013 17:56 (twelve years ago)

it depends on your bank. if your bank has those things that automatically scan the check, they tend to be about as fast as actually giving it to a human being. the kind of atm with the envelopes takes abt a day longer ime

Be prepared for a several-day hold on the funds, for no other reason than "because we can."

schlock corridor (WilliamC), Monday, 22 July 2013 18:22 (twelve years ago)

thanks guys.

"you use checks" is going to be my standard response to forthcoming royal baby zingers.

caek, Monday, 22 July 2013 19:03 (twelve years ago)

i am ruining the new york thread, sorry

chinavision!, Monday, 22 July 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

I don't know which bank you went with but a few of em you can deposit checks by taking a picture of it on your phone if you get their app. Might be a longer hold time though.

dmr, Monday, 22 July 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

btw I would propose going to the Cyclones game in Coney tonight but the weather looks like crap (surprise); also Mondays are bad for mookieproof. They're only home Sat-Mon the next 2 weeks, all bad for me, then there's a month left in the season... Wednesdays are $10 nights, and Sunday Aug 11 is Pre-Game Catch day (5 pm).

caek have u ever thrown a baseball?
