i am sadly all-too familiar with the taste of coors light, since it practically comes out of the water fountain at my work
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

The Stella thing I think is attributable to the fact that it's a Belgian beer, so people are like "whoa, it's Belgian, so it must be quality". I think I made the same mistake for some duration a few years ago and it became a cheap-ish default beer for me when out, but nowadays similar default would be weird choice like Carlsberg or something.
― dell, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:27 (eighteen years ago)
But FWIW I get the impression that in the UK Stella has a whole different thing around it than in the US? Like in UK it is the non-UK lager choice supremo, possibly?
― dell, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:28 (eighteen years ago)
it's the best selling beer in the country
― El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:32 (eighteen years ago)
smells like an ex
― gr8080, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:37 (eighteen years ago)
ok, wow, that makes sense now, as well as helping to put together the pieces floating around in my mind that insisted that Stella enjoyed some esp. privileged status over there.
― dell, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:41 (eighteen years ago)
yuengling > stella > heineken > rolling rock
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:45 (eighteen years ago)
rolling rock was my first legal drink.
― chicago kevin, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:46 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, Stella is just a default beer for UK people who don't really care about beer. It's the national beer in the same way that chicken tikka masala is the national dish.
― admrl, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:52 (eighteen years ago)
talking about stella artois
haha j/k, you guys...
but seriously, so not gonna happen.
― Kerm, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 02:56 (eighteen years ago)
I have never seen Stella in these parts.
― Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:00 (eighteen years ago)
i was surprised to learn that rolling rock was available outside western pennsylvania
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:05 (eighteen years ago)
I drank Yuengling a lot when I lived in pennsylvania because it was almost free, so I find so weird people voluntarily pay $4 for a bottle of it here.
― Yerac, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:06 (eighteen years ago)
compared to here, all beer in pennsylvania is almost free
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:13 (eighteen years ago)
yuengling is low-man on the totem pole for me
― 69, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:14 (eighteen years ago)
Yuengling lager; fuck that, it's really too much like H20. But some of their other stuff is good.
Stella, meh...I like Heineken, even though people swear it tastes skunky (green bottle phenomenon?) and Rolling Rock is maybe just above PBR? Like, maybe alarmingly piss-tasting, but deal-able...as opposed to Budweiser which I swear tastes like ashtray residue and just plain makes me wanna yark. Plus the label on Budweiser is so ingrained into my head from repeated exposure that it seems like some demonic quantity of an especially banal order. On the one or two occasions I've coughed up money for Budweiser I've hated myself.
― dell, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:26 (eighteen years ago)
buds ok by me
― 69, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:28 (eighteen years ago)
I dunno, it does my palate wrong, somehow. I know this is paranoid, but I feel like there's some weird stuff added to the mix, the same way that weird stuff is added to Marlboro cigarettes.
― dell, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:30 (eighteen years ago)
Or Camels, or whatever.
― dell, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:31 (eighteen years ago)
bud is fine, underrated
― deej, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 09:07 (eighteen years ago)
i dont think ive ever seen a yuengling beer! maybe i havent been paying attention.
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 14:45 (eighteen years ago)
i think yuengling is sort of a philly thing
― max, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 14:46 (eighteen years ago)
I feel like pitchers or Yuengling during happy hour were something like $2-$4.
― Yerac, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
its cheaper than water at philadelphia bars in my limited experience
― max, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
it sounds like it could be a fun word to say
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 15:06 (eighteen years ago)
i was in south carolina over the holidaze and yuengling was everywhere.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 15:51 (eighteen years ago)
sometimes i order a stella just so i can drink it out of that fancy glass.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 15:52 (eighteen years ago)
stella is skunky like 75% of the time for some reason
― bell_labs, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 15:54 (eighteen years ago)
is stella really that bad? or just overpriced? i think i had it once but it was pretty unmemorable
― carne asada, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 15:55 (eighteen years ago)
it's completely inoffensive except that it seems to go bad really quickly or easily?

my wife had one a few months ago--she kind of struggled with it. i was surprised and relieved that nothing got spilled or broken.
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 16:31 (eighteen years ago)
oh god that glass is embarrassing. i swear i'd had it before in a normal glass... then i ordered it somewhere else, already a little tanked, and i get this fucking victorian scientific contraption to deal with, the whole bar staring
― gff, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 17:07 (eighteen years ago)
this is the kind of thing i go through
