don't have the somewhat expensive vinyl. this from the ROHIT cassette. most would never put this in their POX, but i really enjoy it and for years have gone around mumbling bits to myself.
on a side note, was amused to find, by clicking thru links on discogs, that ROHIT was a subsidiary of the children's record co. Peter Pan, which itself was a subsidiary of a plastics manufacturer. not so surprising really.

anyone have "Nommos" by Craig Leon? Prefer the ol school unremastered version <3
― That elusive North American wood-ape (Capitaine Jay Vee), Saturday, 16 November 2013 12:29 (twelve years ago)
but just wanna hear it
I had an illegal rip from somewhere online that I trashed after buying the LP. Something you don't like about the remaster?
― dan selzer, Saturday, 16 November 2013 15:11 (twelve years ago)
Having never heard this album I can't say I like either version but Craig Leon himself has dissed the remaster so...would like to hear his original version, shitty rip or not ;)

Was that somewhere online? I'd be curious to read.

reading that interview...firstly I'm hoping SV did believe from Concord that things were settled with Leon. As a reissue label myself, I can't imagine anyone feeling happy about releasing something where the artist isn't involved or happy with the project. Our Fire Engines CD was 99% licensed from Bob Last, but we worked with The Fire Engines through the whole thing. But from that article, it doesn't sound like Leon is unhappy with the master, just that he's unhappy they didn't use his remaster. I'd assume SV, working from original tapes, with the original album as reference and a halfway decent engineer, would result in something that would be as good or better than the original. You might not end up with something that pleases Leon, or his original intent, or his own remastering, but you're not going to get something vastly different to or inferior to the original LP.
― dan selzer, Saturday, 16 November 2013 23:39 (twelve years ago)
The interview also states that Leon hasn't even heard the new master.

Costing around $6000-$10,000, the Scalatron was an expensive and unusual instrument. Less than 20 Scalatrons were ever made (including only 2 Secor versions). The Scalatron came with a black and white monitor to adjust each key’s pitch (using Motorola’s TV tuning technology) – a split screen showed horizontal bars representing true pitch on the left side and the instruments variable pitch on the right side, and, for an additional $1000 a cassette interface was added with a number of tuning ‘programmes’. George Secor toured with the instrument playing works by Harry Partch (who also used the instrument towards the end of his life) and Ben Johnston. The Scalatron is still much in favour – though very hard to find – by microtonal composers and was used on several albums by Jon Hassell, most notably ‘Vernal Equinox’.
“Finally they invented what I needed–forty years too late.”
