see this is misleading because you won't live on top of the train station in atlantic avenue or even particularly close, and you will have to wait for the trains, and there will be delays. like the actual train trip might be 33m.

tho I know a columbia grad student who commutes from staten island

i will play devils advocate and say a short commute kinda sucks because you cant really get any reading momentum going in 10 min, also the f train does suck

man, my 10 min commute sure does suck. it sucks a lot, having such a short commute

i decided i am going to walk today, it takes about 32 minutes... one minute shorter than living on top of atlantic station and going to columbia ; )

most of my commute is on an overground train so I just look at ilx or blogs, like my post upthread was a commute post
