Oh, I'm Dirty Dan, the world's dirtiest man, I never have taken a shower. I can't see my shirt--it's so covered with dirt, And my ears have enough to grow flowers.
But the water is either a little too hot, Or else it's a little too cold. I'm musty and dusty and patchy and scratchy And mangy and covered with mold. But the water is always a little too hot, Or else it's a little too cold.
I live in a pen with five hogs and a hen And three squizzly lizards who creep in My bed, and they itch as I squirm, and I twitch In the cruddy old sheets that I sleep in.
In you looked down my throat with a flashlight, you'd note That my insides are coated with rust. I creak when I walk and I squeak when I talk, And each time I sneeze I blow dust.
The thought of a towel and soap makes me howl, And when people have something to tell me They don't come and tell it--they stand back and yell it. I think they're afraid they might smell me.
The bedbugs that leap on me sing me to sleep, And the garbage flies buzz me awake. They're the best friends I've found and I fear they might drown So I never go too near a lake.
Each evening at nine I sit down to dine With the termites who live in my chair, And I joke with the bats and have intimate chats With the cooties who crawl in my hair.
I'd brighten my life if I just found a wife, But I fear that will never be Until I can find a girl, gentle and kind, With a beautiful face and a sensitive mind, Who sparkles and twinkles and glistens and shines-- And who's almost as dirty as me.

omigod i need to get a job pronto before i tread any further towards semi-alchoholism
i hate, hate, hate, to say it, but i guess that i'm one of those people who needs some external structure in my life...elsewise i tend to end up fucking off and indulging all of my worst tendencies

― 69, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)
bad decisions were made at corner store last night while puzzling over what cheap stuff to get. i am now the proud owner of a 4-pack(wtf?) of 16-oz cans of Steel Reserve and wondering what am I gonna do with this swill...5 bucks. 5 bucks. i coulda bought a six of wholesome pints of beck's for 8 bucks, but my mojo in several major areas of life last night was malfunctioning. or something.
― dell, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 21:17 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, but there are those exceptions-- not even classic type-A personalities, but more just people who are on some self-ordained mission in life, and who get their shit accomplished lickety-split.
i am in that subset of people who would never be bored when they retire...like i can always find something to do, but one of the problems is that i tend to gravitate towards least path of resistance stuff. so i genuinely enjoy and appreciate my "free time", but not much of it is spent doing things of consequence that would be fulfilling in some long-term sense (creative pursuits, other stuff that i know would be valuable as far as lol "personal growth"). i've regressed to being 19 years-old or thereabouts.
i am going to hang out this evening with a friend who is ex-military, and he does stuff like exercise in a gym everyday, even when he is traveling. i find that part of him to be completely intimidating.
― dell, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 21:26 (eighteen years ago)
How long has he been ex-, though? I used to know someone who said that for months after his discharge it didn't occur to him NOT to get up at 7am for a 6-mile formation run and some push-ups, but I can testify that he shook off the straight-lacing eventually.

Um, he's been out for...a dozen years, probably! He is a wonderful guy in countless respects, but he does still retain this edge which I'm pretty sure came from his military years, and which comes across as a rigidity in his personality that I sometimes find irritating. I could care less about his dedication to working out; I'm glad that he does something on a regular basis that obviously makes him feel good...but sometimes, agh, he can be a little frustrating.
Come to think of it, even before he went into the military, he had a weird side to him...like he would insist on playing an album side all the way through-- absolutely no skipping around tracks! But at the same time he was a "wild and crazy guy", like funny punk rock-ish haircut, uninibited as far as walking up to strangers and behaving like some mash of Jim Carrey/Robin Williams, etc.
A complex man!
NB, any complaints I have with him are probably due to me feeling like he harbors the notion that I am some loser because of my habitually dissolute lifestyle...

i think my lifestyle is 50% cutty and 50% chaki

chaki, I know, that's sound advice. It's just the all-pervasiveness of the internet is so indidious that, y'know, in-between looking up jobs online and sending out resumes, it's soooo easy to give in to the temptation to mosey on over to ilx and hang out.
― dell, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:16 (eighteen years ago)
it's soooo easy to give in to the temptation to mosey on over to ilx and hang out.

speant? i need a nap.

― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
was there an equivalent to pigpen in the sad sack comic books? i can't remember.
wikipedia says: Supporting characters included "The Sarge" (Sack's platoon sergeant, the potbellied and tough but reasonable Sergeant Circle); "Slob Slobinski" (Sack's buddy); "The General" (General Rockjaw, always drawn with dark glasses, cigarette holder and Ascot tie) "Sadie Sack" (Sad's redheaded female cousin, in the WACs), "Ol' Sod Sack," Sad's hillbilly uncle, and "Muttsy" the dog. The spin-off Sad Sack Navy, Gobs 'n' Gals had the supporting character "Gabby Gob".
― dell, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:39 (eighteen years ago)
so Slob Slobinski it is!
