why do people choose names that make them unrecognizable?

i hate my current name. i started hating it before i even registered it, but screen names have always been a huge challenge for me, so i'm used to hating my name. in another place i was "brownstone" for years because i was deciding on a name right before my school's computer lab was closing and the guns and roses song was on my mind.

That's always been a mystery to me... Okay, I get it if the person actually wants to be unrecognizable and doesn't want anyone to connect her to her previous username, but that doesn't seem to be the motivation behind most name changes...?

i had to change my username because i accidentally posted infos about my drug dealer on ilx that he found while googling said infos and he ilxmailed me
