my mom and I watched PT&A yesterday, just like we do every year. my father-in-law was here too and I don't think he'd ever seen it in full before and was cracking the fuck up.

planes trains is one of the great movies of the 80s.

i remember watching it for the first time as a kid upstairs in my parents' bedroom, and being absolutely DESTROYED by the ending, like seriously sobbing, and felt a little betrayed that a comedy film would make me cry. seriously, it rocks.
jc is AWES in stripes, too.

sad he didn't live long enough to take part in christopher guest movies (what, you think he wouldn't have been rolling with levy and o'hara?). coulda been his comeback.

IFC plays Once Upon A Crime a surprising amount. Is it some unheralded classic of whimsy or are they just fubar?

Monday is, of course, Halloween — and for many kids across North America, that means a whole lot of candy. For Jen and Chris, growing up in Los Angeles, it was Candy all the time. With a capital 'C'.

rewatched Uncle Buck again last night and it occurred to me that the parents in Uncle Buck bear a passing resemblance to the parents in Calvin and Hobbes. Buck's brother's hair is longer and he's not as thin, but he's got those big ass eyeglasses, and standing next to his Buck-hating wife in the kitchen before they leave for her dad's funeral in Indianapolis, she with her Calvin's mom style haircut, they just suddenly looked like spot-on stand-ins. anyway, something to keep an eye out for next time you yourself have the pleasure of rewatching Uncle Buck.
