do you hate the homeless?

Helios Creed (orion), Friday, 15 October 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Not at all, I'm just saying there's a time and a place for daily consumption of 40 Oz. malt liquor*, and that first thing in the morning may not be the best allocation of one's priorities.

*or 16 oz. malt liquor in a silver/orange can.

You are Willie Brown and I claim my $30 Rice-A-Roni coupon.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 15 October 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear Gygax!,
Have you heard this band "afri rampo" everyone's talking about? Are they good? I heard a rumor that they're coming out with something on tzadik, but tzadik's site makes no mention of them. Where can I find their stuff?
thx,
DJ Felony Assault Appeal

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

HI FD,

they played SF/Oakland a few times about a month ago so they may be in the US on tour (eh..?) but i couldn't get out to any of the shows unfortunately.

i'm pretty ignorant of zorn/tzadik FWIW.

here's their site:

gygax, is your precious mlb 2004 game a good match for someone like me who doesn't want to press 20 buttons just to catch a fly ball?

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Friday, 22 October 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

BIGOT

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

wait for after the world series when the price drops. it's the only game that i've "broke"... it won't load anymore.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it fun to play, though? I get turned off by baseball games that require the constant use of all 84 buttons that are on the PS2 controller.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Try Fifa more.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not Scottish.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

if you've played any EA sports game (or Tony Hawk) the controls should come easy.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

eg, I believe that you have, in part, a heritage which might predispose you to playing/emjoying "the beautiful game". Why must you stray so far from the pack?

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i am about 85% decended from jerks who play football

gygax the last ea sports game i played was nhl hockey 94 and before that, jordan vs. bird

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i am about 85% decended from jerks who play football

cool!

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i am 100% "decended" from people who are easily distracted by work and cannot spell or think properly

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Larry Bird is from Indiana.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Do all Scots waver from the thread topic as easily as you, or just you?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

What thread topic?

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax, is there any reward (besides personal satisfaction) for completing the game that runs during the credits of katamari damacy? if so, WHAT?

identity theftor (deangulberry), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

dearest geandulbryee

I accidently advanced past that screen with an overzealous start button depression.

perhaps we can lure "your null fame" over here to see what his experience is.

your friend,

GYGAXOR, DID PAVEMENT EVER RECORD A STUDIO VERSION OF THE SONG THAT IS COMMONLY CALLED "NIGEL"?

identity theftor (deangulberry), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Where are you going?

Damn Yankees- High Enough (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

How does that one go again? I never had much interest in pavement bootlegs after 94.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna rent a car and just head out around for about 9 days listening to Crooked Rain and camping and stuff. I'm voting on Friday before I leave and I'm gonna try to make it down to LA around the time that ooioo is playing.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

GYGAX WANTS TO WISH ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The "Nigel" song is Terror Twilight era ... I can't remember the lyrics but found this tab, which probably doesn't help much:

VERSE (and the intro, except messy pre-intro, in one version):

C - Am - F - G#

(before the chorus, there's a few strums of C, done quickly, then back to
G# for the chorus)

CHORUS:

G# - F (a few times, I think it varies)

Dm - G (2x)

identity theftor (deangulberry), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

what are the lyrics?

i tried to google and saw that they played it in Chapel Hill in 96 and the setlist note says "(polvo cover)"?

that's a weird resolution chord (G# instead of G). I wonder if it's minor.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno. I have two live mp3s at home. The lyrics are pretty simple, but differ on both versions. I can't remember exactly but Malkmus is doing his oh-so-jaded voice and one of the versions is about going to an upscale party and never spilling your drink and wearing furs, etc etc.

If I get out of work at a reasonable time tonight, I'll transcribe the lyrics. It's a really great song and I'd love to hear a finished version if one exists.

identity theftor (deangulberry), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I only found one of the versions and it's the one that has the less ridiculous lyrics, some of which are unintelligible:

Yeah
Yeah Yeah
Yeah
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah etc etc etc

Baby I know I need to find
A lover so divine

But I don't need the wine

I hope he is enjoying his trip.

I would be curious to know his thoughts on the result of the 2004 presidential election.

adam... (nordicskilla), Thursday, 4 November 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I had coffee with teh gygax yesterday.

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Dangax! like that song "Hit The Plane Down" or is he willing to admit that it is a shit song?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

He will say "that song belongs in another time, in another place."

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

He misses 1992!

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

He was what, my age in 1992?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

If I was at home, I'd be photoshopping 12-year-old Ian on stage with Pavement right now.

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

My estimate would put him at around 20 years old in 1992, give or take a few months. I was 14!

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I was 13ish!

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)
