i liked the coachella mix more than this one but i dont really think this one "sucks." it does lose something without the light show.
― max, Monday, 5 November 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)
without the visuals or crowd noize it just sounds like a ton of buildup with no payoff. or a "how to make boring house" mix.
― chaki, Monday, 5 November 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)
its so samey!
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 5 November 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)
yeah thats fair criticism! i think i probably like it a lot more b/c ive seen the show (twice) so i have some sense of what "would" be going on if i was in a stadium with a thousand other ppl

Yeah, I hope everyone with even a casual interest in Sun City Girls makes sure to DL that shit. It sounds great too, just like... a cassette!
Also I love how it's just two long tracks, "Side A" and 'Side B".
thanks again x 1000000 bb.
― Jon Lewis, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)
big thanks to whoever posted it whereever i found it..definitely a great reccord...and jl is right, it sounds great. not just the digitizing, but the original production is so strangely sun-flecked and open..weird norther CA vibe...

ah chaki that's a good one
do you have this:
http://xraybarbecue.blogspot.com/2007/11/douglas-quin-antarctica-wild-sanctuary.html http://www.amazon.com/Antarctica-Douglas-Quin/dp/B000006HDM
I had to check with my three friends who've actually been to Antartica to confirm that the wadell seals actually sound like the Buchla-assault of the last track
Sun City Girls, Live at the Nightbreak, 30 Oct 1993, unreleased board recording (if anyone can help me I.D. some more of the songs in the first set, that'd be sporting)
― Milton Parker, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)
no i dont! thx for the SCG im stoked!!!
― chaki, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)
M1lton I wont be able to DL it til I get home from work, but if the trax haven't been ID'd by then I'll put an ear into it. And many 10-Qs for the up!
I've been thinking of trying to organize some kind of an In Memoriam Charlie Gocher/In Memoriam SCG night on the 1st anniversary of his death in February. Like, just get together and play a solid 3 hrs of SCG tracks. I dunno, maybe that's a better thing to do on the radio?

that hard floor stuff .. .i dunno
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)
I'm sentimental about how stupid they are, but I admittedly don't put them on very often. They're useful when deployed in a mix because they really do not throw you any surprises -- they're just something to know about (Daft Punk's first single & those Bangalter 12's are not just Acid or 303 ripoffs -- it's Hardfloor)
'Acperience 3' and 'Into the Nature' are my two favorites
― Milton Parker, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)
There's some cool parts in that stuff, but it sounds like hanging out smoking weed with the kids I didn't like

for me, somewhere on the Russian River 3 hours north of SF, arms of the milky way visible in the sky, huge sound system, 5am 1993 (I'm old)

― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)
couple months ago I was on a date walking around the cliffs at Fort Funston at 1am, we'd just been to an Eats Tapes show at the Hemlock and she was saying she wasn't sure about rave and I said 'well that kind of music doesn't really work in rock venues' and she said 'well where does it work?' and at that exact moment these two kids ran up asking us 'where it was' -- and we heard, in the distance, the hi-hats echoing off the cliffs, walked to the edge and somehow there they were, about a hundred Daly City kids dancing at 150bpm, and we wandered down the trail and these kids were hiking up past us with pacifiers and stopping to introduce themselves by their first names and asking us if we had everything we were going to need and we got to the center of it and they were all in their teens and I said 'it's supposed to sound like this'
I talked to one kid named Noah for about three minutes who'd driven up from Mountain View when the myspace flier went out at 10pm, and I said something about how great it was that this was still happening and he said 'still?' and I said that I hadn't been to one of these since 1993, I'm in my thirties and he leaned closer to look at me and then screamed 'NO WAY' and at that exact moment the DJ dropped 'Out of Space' by the Prodigy
so I think we're still in the tunnel
― Milton Parker, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)
this is why i refrain from posting 'sky was pink' and all the subsequent bodzin/huntemann ripoffs, this stuff isnt quite the same without massive pa & uppers. xpost
― fies, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:00 (eighteen years ago)
I'd download it, but you're basically right
Coachella DP mp3 has better sound than the CD but basically, not the same w/o the light show & the crowd
