i could never work that look, no way, but i think my bf looks just enough like an adorable garden gnome to pull it off

tlg's footwear interest is usually completely opposite to my own. great music taste, though

Me too. Those are the most V@hid looking shoes I've ever seen.

http://store.tretorn.com/images/540/47236004_1.jpgGot these at Christmas and they still look pretty new. Best shoes I've had in quite a while.
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 19 April 2012 04:26 (fourteen years ago)
the ironic thing is that even though i get associated with that stuff i honestly have one pair of birkenstock bostons and one pair of clarks desert treks and then everything else is plain low top tennis shoes (stan smiths, nike tennis classic, nb procourts) simple high-tops like monochrome black or grey vans chukkas and nike court forces and tokis and a bunch of old school new balances in grey suede grandpa colorways
well, also the pony hair shoes

I am gonna buy mad Vans this summer. I know for this thread that doesn't even rate a mention but I've never had slip-ons before, I just think they are the way forward for my poor feet.
― how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:47 (fourteen years ago)
I have some tretorn slip-on shoes that are pretty ok
― mh, Thursday, 19 April 2012 22:08 (fourteen years ago)
you should just buy the expensive chukkas imo - will last longer and look coolerxpi have never worn Vans bc they make my feet look giant
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 April 2012 22:14 (fourteen years ago)
how much cheaper do you want to go on those chukka boots? i don't subscribe to the idea that more expensive is necessarily better but at the same time i agree with robyn's sentiment (at least i think this is the sentiment) that you dont want to compromise for cost on leather boots the way you might for a pair of tennies or slip-ons
i would suggest maybe looking at clarks desert boots but i'm not sure they're exactly something you want.
― the late great, Friday, 20 April 2012 05:04 (fourteen years ago)
desert boots seem pretty ubiquitous nowadays but I was thinking of getting the version done by TOMS, unsure how I feel about owning shoes made by TOMS though

was trying to help a lady find something like that in the natural british bridle leather color (orange / pink)
she's a bridesmaid but the wedding is in a vineyard so it needs to be relatively low heel, light, not a sandal and relatively spendy
any ideas?

for some reason shoes like those weavers with stitching around the front always remind me of the moccasins that people end up buying in a tourist joint on a south dakota vacation

i need a pair of good waterproof boots that don't look wack, for walking in the rain and/or slush and snow
any suggestions?
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 22:32 (twelve years ago)
like, i've already looked in a few department stores and all their boots are like "oooh, nice leather" - they seem a little thin-skinned, a little too nice, for what's required here; that said i don't want like EXTREME HIKE-BOOTS
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 22:33 (twelve years ago)
i bought some boots from a mens shoe shop the other day and the guy who sold them to me is was like "you can get stylish and waterproof, but you can't get stylish and insulated."
i cant find my boots online but i'll post a pic when i get home.

i had a pair of cole haan winter boots that i really love that ive had for at least 10 years but this winter has finally killed them and they dont make them anymore so i'm a bit at a loss because i need to replace them and most functional boots are really ugly
― Lamp, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 22:40 (twelve years ago)
I think classic duck boots or some variation thereon are the best compromise.
I had to emergency buy myself some north face snow boots recently, being caught having to work late in the middle of a giant snowstorm with only my dress shoes and that being the best option at the nearby sporting goods store. They are great in terms of warmth and waterproofness but thick and clunky as fuck.
― Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 22:40 (twelve years ago)
FWIW I made it for years with a pair of waterproof hiking boots before the waterproofing finally started to wear off.
hurting these were the best $40 i ever spent http://www.amazon.com/Tingley-Executive-Zip-Boot-Overshoes/dp/B002ONCQQC

― have a nice blood (mh), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 22:54 (twelve years ago)
My dad used to rock them all the time. I think he actually called them galoshes. Wearing them reminds me of my dad in a very strong way.
― Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 22:55 (twelve years ago)
i call them galoshes even though i know that's incorrect

I was at a store & thought about getting some Palladium waterproof boots
http://www.palladiumboots.com/category/categories/waterproof
(Lol at the blog post with the title Blood Orange)
But after the import tax a pair was like $200 USD
Think I might just buy a pair of cheap shoes with a thick sole and a can of Scotchgard
― 龜, Wednesday, 19 February 2014 00:27 (twelve years ago)
these are what i got last weekend:
http://i.imgur.com/6ZkBsxg.jpg
the label says they're made by HH Brown but when i google i can't find them and it looks like that company is a conglomerate of a bunch of different footwear brands now?
anyway they're nothing i'd ever decide to buy on my own but the sales guy had me try them on and i really like them. they're not insulated but they're waterproof and look sharp enough to wear on a date or something.
― |$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Wednesday, 19 February 2014 01:36 (twelve years ago)
These may be the ugliest shoes I've ever owned. It doesn't stop me from wearing them. I even bought a backup pair for when these wear out. Why? Excellent fit and comfort for walking and hiking.

my lands end moc/chukka boots aren't waterproof but they were resistant enough to get through a full day of slush-walking today.
