I am north of 14th on a bus and just saw a halal pizza place with a sign that said "no pork on my fork"

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Was it next to a sign that said "champagne in my campaign"?

Oh wait, halal, probably not.

Fight Club may be about the disaffected late-twenties early-thirties child of the 80's, but the hyperactive film-style, the incessant hip-cat dialogue, and the freshman philosophy is actually built for the appeal of a far younger demographic IMO.

yes! SRV did that solo on (bowie's) china girl is really nice, though the intro is too much like the vapors to me.
he also played guitar on james browns "living in america" although i can't place the guitar part from memory.

i hear plenty of soul clear as day in his playing. yet his talent (like shawn estes') was clearly affected by his alc.consumption but

You never know who's in on a joke (well *you* don't, anyway) but I'll happily admit to liking the book and not doubting its veracity when it came out. There was no reason to. I got BORED when Courtney Love and Asia Argento became interested - as any sensible woman should - and even more bored when my editor at ESM made JT a contributor, which presumably involved faked conversations. Nobody liked this editor by the time she left and the JT fakeage contributed to her leaving. I feel sorry for the female hoaxer, because publishers do find it 'sexier' to be a cross-dressing rent boy than some Bay Area fringe scenester or a Cantab underachiever, and allocate deals accordingly.

Matt, I didn't mean you when I was talking about messageboard aspirants to Grub Street with vinegar on their shoulder-chips; this one was specifically about the grumbling Grubs. Howevs I could do 180 covers of American diner food on any given night, EASY, so NER. ;-)

also, this is hilarious:
In Harlem, I stopped by a restaurant called No Pork On My Fork. I thought, such a funny name, and what an unusual place for a kosher restaurant. I asked the owner behind the counter, "What made you put a Jewish restaurant here?"

I mean, from the name, I just assumed . . . He said, "Not Jewish . . . we're Muslim. We don't eat pork, either."

ian, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

Wha...? I wasn't trying to be contentious or anything. I like the Noise Board and most of its denizens and didn't think it was controversial to point out that there are threads on the Noise Board that have equivalents on ILE/ILM. The "what are you listening to?" thread is another one. The point of me bringing it up at all was that Hurting said he was posting here because he couldn't post to "posts very much in character" (presumably because he's banned?), which made me think that he could've posted to "ILEpitaphs," since it's basically the same thread.

This is the only thread I managed to find on them. The search engine here is so fucked up that it makes you look for every single thread mentioning the word "Band" in it. It doesn't matter whether you put quotation marks around "S.O.S. Band", either. Anyway I've just made myself a whole CD of them and I'm a fucking CAPPY HAMPER. Disco married with early 80's R&B,it's a delight. Where are the fucking strawberries of love? This is romantic funk, man. That's the best way to say what they are is romantic funk.

About seven years ago, I was at some shitty party at Chelsea Piers and there was some dink walking around in a "vintage" Queensryche t-shirt (specifically the cover of Queen of the Ryche). Given the nature of the function and the type of crowd gathered, I was quick to suspect that the dude was wearing it "ironically." Having already imbibed the first of a few too many, I accosted him about it. "So, are you wearing this shirt because you're actually a fan of the band?" I asked. The guy looked immediately uncomfortable. "...or are you just wearing it for its kitsch value?" I continued. "ummm...both?" he offered, unconvincingly. I believe I spat at the ground in front of him and walked away (`cos I'm a jerk like that). And I don't even like Queensryche, and never have.
