My family started a Christmas tradition a few years ago where we sit around and eat Christmas snacks and watch my brother beat the NES Ninja Turtles game.

That game is incredibly difficult!

I loved it to death until my mom killed the NES with a hammer and I could never play again ;_;

killed the NES ... with a hammer?
― thomp, Sunday, 25 March 2012 09:49 (fourteen years ago)
Oh yeah. I was playing it in secret when she'd hidden because I had played too much one summer instead of being outdoors. When I was home alone I'd get it out from the hiding spot, hook it up, and play. One day she came home unexpectedly and caught me. She promptly ripped out all the wires and took the whole thing out to the back deck. She came back inside found a hammer and proceeded to smash it to bits. It was a traumatizing experience.
― wolf kabob (ENBB), Sunday, 25 March 2012 12:13 (fourteen years ago)
that sounds horrifying! i remember being at a friend's party at like age ... age whatever year super mario 3 came out, and just being aghast that his parents came and took the nes away temporarily, i think if i had seen a scene like that one i would have tried to run away from home
― thomp, Sunday, 25 March 2012 12:59 (fourteen years ago)
we used to steal our confiscated NES back too but we were playing 'metal gear'. I think my parents were too cheap to ever hammer it.http://i.imgur.com/8hPFf.jpg
― bnw, Sunday, 25 March 2012 16:13 (fourteen years ago)
damn erica hammering that unit mustve been so satisfying for yr mother, so gangster
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 March 2012 17:05 (fourteen years ago)
I'm sure it was. When she realized that I'd been playing it in secret for weeks she just went mental. SO PISSED. It was a sad sad day for me.

babysitter's club?
― sarahell, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 01:28 (fourteen years ago)
ha! No, not Claudia from the babysitters' club though iirc she was my favorite. She was 1/2 Asian and a very snappy dresser. Oh God, why do I remember that. ps - totally tried to start my own babysitters' club.
Was talking about the girl who bares hers to Rusty while the Griswolds are in Germany in European Vacation.

posted on that other one by accident
I just searched for it and I can't find any previous posts about it. On the other hand, I could hook you up with a video of Rusty saying "I think he's gonna pork her, dad!".

100. Singin' in the Rain: Never seen it, should rectify it one of these days.
99. Swingers: Don't even know what this is.
97. Network: Never seen.
94. Team America: Never seen.
94. Sullivan's Travels: Never seen, but I've liked some other Sturges that I've seen, so I guess I should watch this?
93. Lost in America: Never heard of this one.
89. Trouble in Paradise: Never seen it.
89. Pink Flamingos: Never seen it.
89. Serious Man: I haven't seen anything after The Man Who Wasn't There.
87. Night at the Opera: Never seen it.
85. Muppet Movie: I'm a bit too young to really remember when the Muppets were a thing, so I'm mostly ignorant of them.
84. Josie & the Pussycats: Didn't know they made a movie based on the cartoon, nor did I know it was so controversial.
79. Being There: never seen it.
76. To Be or Not To Be: Sadly, I've only seen the Mel Brooks version (which I thought was pretty good).
76. The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie: Never seen it.

I had actually seen 11 of the 25 movies, but I guess editing out all the comments on those makes the post "funny".

VegGrrl has used both words in the last two days! No joke: Yesterday I saw her post about "decolletage" on the Mad Men thread and asked my wife what it meant. When I found out, I said, "Huh. Why did I think it had to do with interior decoration?" Then, this afternoon, I saw her post upthread and was like "Oh, that's why!"
