That's a good one, but it's also sparked a pet peeve of mine.

I don't want to be all "oh, I knew about the Yao meme face before reddit did", but this true story has been around for at least two years. It certainly isn't "newly discovered" as Yahoo said on its front page today.

Last week, my Facebook news feed was blowing up with "omg, John Tyler's GRANDCHILDREN are still alive!" Yeah, I know. I don't expect it to be common knowledge, but it drives me crazy how Yahoo or reddit or Fark flip through a trivia book randomly and "newly discover" these neat stories.

I guess I don't mind since not everyone reads these things the first time they're reported, but the shelf life of a story on the Internet needs to start getting a little longer in the tooth.

my dad was born in '46, my grandfather in '00, my great-grandfather in the 1850s. i'm sure there's a matthew brady daguerreotype lying around the house somewhere showing him as a teenager.

my parents were a little older when they had me, and they were both younger kids in their families. it always kinda weirded me out when other kids would talk about going to see their great-grandparents. like i didn't think that should be possible.

Yeah, or like, when someone's grandma would be as old as my mom. Gave me the shivers; both because it made my mom seem too old and their grandma not old enough.

I met my great-grandmother for the first time at my grandfather's funeral (her son.)

He was 70 and she was 85. If my family had tired a little harder, we could've had like six generations in this last century.
