These two are my very favorite train wreck. Go ahead, judge me all you want - my husband already does. But I am utterly FASCINATED by this girl. I go back and forth between pity, because she is clearly a damaged girl to "there is NO WAY that woman is 17" to my current theory; she's actually an alien sent here to observe our reproductive habits. Her research team didn't do a very good job, obviously.

the idea that she's a 20+ year old scam artist is wonderful. As is the idea that he's in on it and it's a performance art project.

yeahh I don't actually care that much about this semantics game. does 'sex crimes' mean the crimes people committed while having consensual sex? no that is generally not what people investiage on law and order SVU. if your personal definition of the word sex restricts the term to consensual sex, sure, fine, people can use language however they want, as long as people get what they're saying. but the term in 2011 has a very broad definition and so the dictionary is not 'essentially wrong'.

yeah this is one of the many instances in which typology/classification is insidious and just plain wrong imo. it links according to the external verifiable "natural" commonality (penile insertion) instead of differentiating based on something less verifiable but way more important, important enough to make two acts fundamentally different imo (consensuality). also: something something patriarchal objectivity bias.

and sorry, words are important and i think the construction of the sex/rape concept is worth thinking about beyond "getting what people are saying" because often what people are saying reifies the construction. i.e. rape being a type of sex plays into the idea (noticeably prevalent in places that aren't big cities iirc) that sex is like the ok (but of course still kinda dirty) version of an act that is essentially the same thing.

besides i love sex, gtfo with rape being a type of sex, etc.
