I have def said things like this in the past about people. But there's no way some trend-hopping dipshit who made his name ripping off ARIEL FUCKING PINK is smart enough to pull media shenanigans like that. Traditionally before we made our artists heroes they have a few years to do zine interviews and local things and fuck up and learn what not to say and how not to say it. its like, i've heard so much about [williamsburg, brooklyn] since the first yeah yeah yeahs album and then its like a completely normal street with a slightly higher prevalence of soy options in coffee shops and people wearing plaid shirts. also secondhand booksellers with a lot of vonnegut. if a place has built an international reputation on being trendsettingly fashionable, it doesn't really seem all that nitpicky to say its weird that it actually seemed UNfashionable, like weirdly parochial and dated. idk if you have some weird vested interest in protecting williamsburg as the last bastion of the avant garde or something. i had some nice pizza there idk.
