This is a dish called Odori-Don. It has a dead squid on top that “dances” when Soy Sauce is poured on it, activating it’s neurons. (so f'ing cool! remember, it's DEAD!)

Those of you inclined to try this will likely try it regardless of what I write, so there's really not much to say. Food flailing around on your plate (and sucking with morbid tenacity to the inside of your mouth) will of course always be of interest to some, although in culinary terms: it's passable, but an entire squid is a lot to eat in one sitting.

big RZA in my backyard (Edward III), Thursday, 28 July 2011 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah there's a whole youtube vid of that squid.

Also, squid wave hi to me - :D

I've seen recipes in very old cookbooks for cooking and eating living ducks, if you really want to have your food trying to get away from you while you eat it.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 30 July 2011 22:20 (fourteen years ago)

it's just so barbaric. at least put the thing out of it's misery before you dump soy sauce all over it.

latebloomer, Saturday, 30 July 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

uh the cephalopod is already dead by the time you pour soy sauce over it

You'd think if they wanted her to learn about life, they would have made her save up for her own breast enhancement surgery.
