jaxon, i'd really like that. thx to you..

i'd never heard of Foxes, then i bought it on VHS at a place getting rid of all their cassettes. it actually has some really great moments (lots of lols), and that awesome late 70s/early 80s soft film quality that makes everything look porny.

i also bought it for young jodie foster. yaaow.

Roland Kirk, One Ton, recorded 7 July 68 @ Newport

it's about the entire flute solo, total noise, but also key that he's playing all three of the saxes in the intro himself, simultaneously

I've been digging on I Talk With The Spirits recently a lot, beautiful jazz but also really edgy and strange

Rose McDowall (of Strawberry Switchblade): Cut With The Cake Knife

http://www.sendspace.com/file/1uu6q5

missing the last track b/c friend who gave this to me apparently didn't finish the download (it was also very poorly tagged but I've corrected everything)

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 15 June 2007 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

i have listened to that villalobos Encuentro... track like a billion times this week

here try these

rhythm & sound - let we go (villalobos mix)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/1mn1fj

dj minx - a walk in the park (villalobos til thursday remix)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/z51tez

I was kinda burnt out on the dude for a while but I have been listening to a bunch of these again

dmr, Friday, 15 June 2007 03:43 (nineteen years ago)

on hearing the original "encuentro" that it sampled, that villalobos remix sounds pretty underwhelming and lazy

am0n, Friday, 15 June 2007 03:55 (nineteen years ago)

that r + s remix is real nice

am0n, Friday, 15 June 2007 04:45 (nineteen years ago)

LOL @ Jon wanting Strawbs! =D (kind of awesome tho)

Did u no: I dressed up as Rose McDowall in high school for a school dance once. GO ME.

(specifically side B)

gr8080, Friday, 15 June 2007 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

here is a question re: too high to move..
the sample is taken from what i believe is Moroder's version of Janis Ian's "Run Too Fast, Fly Too High," made famous by the Jodie Foster film, "Foxes." how do i shot finding Moroder version? i've searched high and low and it doesn't seem to fuckin exist.

jaxon, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

does anybody have the REKIDS: ONE compilation? i can't find it anywhere ... to purchase or listen =(

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 15 June 2007 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

looks like it's on emusic
I have 3 or 4 tracks off it from the 12"s

dmr, Friday, 15 June 2007 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

only disc two ... i guess i could compile it all off the 12s on slsk but ... fuck it, i'm lazy.

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 15 June 2007 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

A Flock Of Seagulls - Rosenmontag (full length version, b-side of "Nightmares" 12", 1983)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/uqg4ud

co-produced by Conny Plank shortly after recording Zero Set

http://www.discogs.com/release/489625

ripped this from vinyl last night, turntable is running a little fast, I didn't compress it at all so it has to be turned up

Milton Parker, Friday, 15 June 2007 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

"Blue" Gene Tyranny - Rendezvous, composed by John Bischoff, from Just For The Record, Lovely Music 1979

http://www.sendspace.com/file/dqohn1

same lo-fi deal as above

Milton Parker, Friday, 15 June 2007 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

Jaxon- i think most of the tracks they've used are floating around. "Days" is a loop "Coldest Days..." as i mentioned up thread, "Too High" is "Fly too High," and i have the real "Drax" somewhere around here...

the table is the table, Saturday, 16 June 2007 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

also thx very much for track. made my night.

the table is the table, Saturday, 16 June 2007 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

drax samples "children of the universe" by double fantasy, which is a robert schroeder project.

lfam, Saturday, 16 June 2007 02:50 (nineteen years ago)

i actually like the original better. sounds like QV just added the drum and bass tracks under the unedited schroeder synth journey.

lfam, Saturday, 16 June 2007 02:51 (nineteen years ago)

the real question, what does "can't be beat" sample?

lfam, Saturday, 16 June 2007 02:58 (nineteen years ago)

okay, here is the double fantasy song: http://www.sendspace.com/file/e94gq3

lfam, Saturday, 16 June 2007 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i was wondering about "can't be beat" the other day. i just want to know where the vocal sample comes from: "pearly was her dove-white skin....what's that stubble on your chin" ?

the table is the table, Saturday, 16 June 2007 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

on the subject of beardo sample spotting, did anyone ever work out a complete track list for better with a spoonful of leather?

creme1, Saturday, 16 June 2007 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

also, dmr, i'd never heard that Villalobos Minx remix. i was supr-hi today and it did a number on me, great tune.

the table is the table, Saturday, 16 June 2007 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

I feel like I should offer someting: is anyone interested in the vinyl 12" mix of "Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust" by This Mortal Coil? Its good!

Trayce, Saturday, 16 June 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

also, dmr, i'd never heard that Villalobos Minx remix.

it's on MANDY's body language vol. 1 but they only use like a minute of it

I remember trying to google the lyrics to Can't Be Beat when I first heard it but I didn't find anything

dmr, Saturday, 16 June 2007 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

since we're getting all qv completist I think this one ...

http://www.discogs.com/release/923826

... and drax are the only ones I haven't heard

dmr, Saturday, 16 June 2007 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

i have that yorkston mix. its not very good though...

drax samples "children of the universe" by double fantasy, which is a robert schroeder project.

haha. another record i had that i didn't realize was a sample to that album. it's been a while since i've listened to QV, and that's the last song on the second side, so i probably have never gotten to it.

jaxon, Saturday, 16 June 2007 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

quiet village is actually a secret alter ego of jaxon's brane

like one of those bad post-6th sense gotcha movies

they're releasing limited 12"s from inside the house!!!

dmr, Sunday, 17 June 2007 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

thanks, fez.

gr8080, Sunday, 17 June 2007 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

what does "can't be beat" sample?

Sounds like "The Days of Pearly Spencer" by David McWilliams.

Chriddof, Monday, 18 June 2007 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

its pearly spencer all right, but the vocals dont really sound like mcwilliams or almond, even when pitched up.

, Monday, 18 June 2007 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

now i think you guys are just fucking w/me. that david mcwilliams song is on my site.

jaxon, Monday, 18 June 2007 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

which is really making me mad because all my years growing up collecting original hip hop samples and i can't make heads or toes of this album

jaxon, Monday, 18 June 2007 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

listening to those four Walker Brothers tracks over and over and over, thanks Jena

if I'd heard those tracks in high school in the 80's it could have saved me about a year of listening to those David Sylvian records

Milton Parker, Monday, 18 June 2007 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

lol jaxon

gr8080, Monday, 18 June 2007 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

(also thanks 4 link)

gr8080, Monday, 18 June 2007 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

The Jimmy Page track posted on Jaxon's site a few days ago is amazing. Thank you, sir.
