I've seen tortellini pizza

And read about one that has FRENCH FRIES on it.

MMMM CARBS.

TORTELLINI PIZZA IS EFFIN AWES, FULES

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

actually, above-mentioned three roses (or is it 5?) makes a decent potato slice

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

I've had good potato slices, but they're usually super classy simple pies, really thin crust, thin potato, pretty light. There's a bizarre fancy italian place near me that's in the back of a warehouse on an industrial road called S'apporo D'Ischia and their potato pie actually tasted healthy, if a bit lacking in strong flavors.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

actually Sapori di'Ischia

dan selzer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

wait wait wait..... i think i need a FRENCH FRY PIZZA made with BBQ SAUCE.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

there is a place in providence that has NACHO PIZZA. with TORTILLA CHIPS onnit.

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

I recently found out what I thought was a BBQ chicken slice at that place on Bedford is actually a BBQ tinned salmon slice. :(

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

so much evil in the world.

lauren, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

I've had like 20 of those slices before I discovered the terror

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

: (

DO NOT WANT TINNED SALMON PIZZA.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

I think mashed potato pizza is usually white, not red. They've got it at my favorite pizza place (not in NY) but I have yet to take the plunge.

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

that would make more sense gabbneb. i think instead of cheese i'll use gravy and instead of a pizza crust i'll use a plate and eat it that way.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

[i]I don't really think there is such a thing as a budget steakhouse in nyc. [/1]

the strip house on 13th in the village? I'm not big on steak but it's prob cheaper than peter luger. a friend of mine was just telling me abt an argentinian place w/good beef in the theatre district, I think w.46th st.

recently in herald square I looked around for my favorite back-in-the-day hot dog joint on the corner of 32nd & Bway: kosher franks and supersweet orange and grape soda from the fountain. long gone.

m coleman, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

there's some argentinian steak places in queens that are supposed to be good, and no doubt cheap.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

cafecito on avenue c has really good peruvian or argentinian steaks (I forget which) with citrusy onions and verde sauce

and it's cheap

dmr, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

for some reason whenever I go into a pizza place I just point to stuff instead of acting like I know english. This has led me to accidentally getting the mashed potato pizza instead of the white pizza i wanted. Expecting a white pizza and getting a mouthful of mashed potatos fucking sucks.

Yerac, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

the only argentine steak place i've been to in queens is Mi Tio on Queens blvd. It's alright. I used to go with my dad and sister before baseball games, and honestly I just remember getting sangria drunk and thinking the steak was "alright."

ian, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

Tontorros is the one on Coney Island. Is that as good as they say

have you been to Tontonno's? i'm guessing JBR has? it's pretty amazing pizza. i'm gonna do di fara's one day, been meaning to for 2-3 years now

sanskrit, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

the only thing i can really remember is that our pie had the most amazing mozzarella on it and the underside of the pizza had this great carbon char to it

sanskrit, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

strip house is pricey.

lauren, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not used to steak houses or anything, i'm just looking for a piece of meat that wasn't running at saratoga last season. also, any nyc noisers have any floor space for my best friends for a few days? their place to stay fell thru for the fest.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

if you don't object to paying $15 or $16 for an individual-sized pizza OTTO on 8th st & 5th Ave is really quite good, the most approachable of mario batali's hyped restaurant empire. nice italian wines too. it's pricey for pizza and definitely not old-school style -- grilled not ovened -- but the clam pie is awes.

m coleman, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

Ya, I like Otto. It's also fun to make a meal out of antipasti there. Great gelato too.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

Pies 'n' Thighs is good

Hurting 2, Sunday, 18 March 2007 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

pies 'n' thighs is GREAT.

lauren, Monday, 19 March 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

I had a chicken box with collard greens and a lemonade. YUM

It felt weird eating it at the Rockstar Bar though.

Hurting 2, Monday, 19 March 2007 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

they were serving brunch on slightly smaller oval plates yesterday, which means merely large portions instead of ridiculous. i wonder if this is a permanent change.

lauren, Monday, 19 March 2007 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

where do I eat around Columbia U tonight? Indian or a good burger esp.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 22 March 2007 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

Vege dumplings at Ollie's

sexyDancer, Thursday, 22 March 2007 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

I would but I had chow fun last night

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 22 March 2007 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

can i request something cheap around lincoln center, please?

bell_labs, Thursday, 22 March 2007 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

ha ha same rec from me: Ollies

sexyDancer, Thursday, 22 March 2007 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

where do I eat around Columbia U tonight? Indian or a good burger esp.

burgers at the Heights, bway/111-112 or Abbey Pub, 105th off bway (east). I don't remember good indian, though there was a passable one around 107 and bway (west side).

I think the Columbia Ollie's is better than the lincoln center one?

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

i see the mouse droppings controversy has yet to be addressed here

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

which controversy? doh is shutting places down left and right.

lauren, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

well, the LinCtr one was awful! (the one time I ate there)

thx. (also, a falafel place called Amir's?)

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

can i request something cheap around lincoln center, please?

you're not alone in that request. there's cafe mozart on 70th east of bway, though it's nothing special. for takeout, there's the dean and deluca on 67th (?) west of bway or gray's papaya at bway and 72nd.

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

which controversy?

di fara's

a falafel place called Amir's?

don't think i ever went there and don't remember ever hearing a recommendation. people say good things about the korean place next door (?).

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that's a tough one. cafe at whole foods in time-warner center, maybe.

lauren, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

i've been similarly unimpressed with linc ctr ollie's but columbia ollie's' veg dumplings are very good and their chicken and broccoli is habit-forming

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

cafe at whole foods in time-warner center, maybe

aren't the whole foods cafes really expensive? there's bouchon bakery there too but that's probably even moreso.

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

if you're going to the met (and if you're going to barbiere, i hate you), there's food inside, of course

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

you mean controversy as ch0wh0und removing posts stating the difara's was closed? that was totally, utterly stupid. removing posts containing possibly damaging hearsay is one thing, not allowing people to say that the doh has closed a popular eatery is quite another. generally i like c-hound, but when they screw up they tend to do it a big way. all they did was add more fuel to eater's bizarre grudge against them.

lauren, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

salad bar at wf is $7.99/lb and the sandwiches tend to be better than deli fare and about the same price. not bargain basement , but cheaper than any other sit down option save fast food in that area.

lauren, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

also, i think you can get a hot plate (roast chicken, lasagne, ribs, etc) w/ two sides for $7.99.

lauren, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm...someone said josie's, i've only been to the burger place on the east side. and i've only been to the ollie's in times square, at age 11 after seeing 'miss saigon' with my mom.

bell_labs, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

where to go for brunch plz? preferably someplace with a liquor license but that's not a deal breaker.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i only know from going WANT at whole foods' indian bar and then getting taken for near $20 after waiting on their ridiculous line

gabbneb, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:27 (nineteen years ago)
