Edward III, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

bb, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Tuvan Throat Singing

we could use another one though

my favorites: huun-huur-tu LIVE 1, LIVE 2 & sixty horses in my herd
yat-kha - dalai beldiri -- http://www.amazon.com/Dalai-Beldiri-Yat-Kha/dp/B00000IFW0
chirgilchin - collectible -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chirgilchin

if you want one stop shopping though, this book comes with a CD/DVD that blew me away, worth the whole cost -- the DVD really nails it, helps to see & live with the people making the music, there's a scene where one of the members of huun-huur-tu hikes all the way down a Tuvan river from the mountains to the valleys, pausing at different sections to sing in tune with the rushing stream in different registers as the stream widens and the burbling gets deeper and deeper. the book is by Ted Levin, original member of David Hykes' Harmonic Choir. http://www.amazon.com/Where-Rivers-Mountains-Sing-Nomadism/dp/0253347157

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

check out the electric guitar on the sample for 'Ydyk Buura' on that yat-kha amazon page. I think I posted that song upthread, even, I could post it again

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

you did, its great

bb, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

tanks milton, that book/cd/dvd looks great. if you wanna re-up the yat-kha that would be cool.

think I'm gonna try to track down ondar's echoes of tuva, it's got the track that herzog used in little dieter wants to fly. it has an almost field blues feeling to it, which I'm guessing has something to do with paul pena's influence.

0733-Synthetic Emotions (at -6)

Just because...I ripped this Aly-Us bootleg (NJ house stuff) for the Strictly Rhythm thread and grabbed this for my own pleasure. Seriously beautiful techno.

huun-huur-tu the orphan's lament
i thought i had another one of their records, but my lack of organization these days makes things disappear..need to get back on the ordering of things project.

bb, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

thanks for the hht, mang... and for the sfrp tip. here's a nice tuvan track I picked up from a comp there.

LOL @ belgium - only a country responsible for gabba and jumpstyle could possibly hope to produce purist ghettotech snobs

ripped a few tracks from bo hansson "attic thoughts"
funky prog rock w/ moog ... not as great as Lord of the Rings but there's a lotta good stuff on it

last two

bulgarian voices (Angelite) & huun-huur-tu - wave, from fly, fly, my sadness -- improvised choral drone

http://www.sendspace.com/file/gsgge3

yat-kha - ydyk buura, from dalai beldiri, re-up

http://www.sendspace.com/file/r1n6rx

Milton Parker, Friday, 8 June 2007 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

Can't check Tuvan singing right now but one of my favourite gigs this year ws seeing an improv between a Tuvan-type throat singer and a gtrist. Really took away any of the 'exoticism', I thought.
