happy birthday Dan!

in your honor i ate a ham/cheese single sloppy joe. i don't know why i said that, the first time experiencing them it was nauseating but a good one can be pretty great, depending.

your a lifesaver with the Belmont idea, everything else you mentioned is already taken except pizza. working on the marinara for the shrimp now.

sanskrit, Saturday, 19 March 2011 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

i meant i don't know why i typed befouled. i still don't understand how those sandwiches can ship without getting soggy. maybe separate pouches for self assembly?

sanskrit, Saturday, 19 March 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

The sloppy joes we get are simply roast beef and turkey, swiss cheese(or provo, can't remember), coleslaw and tons of russian dressing on thin slices of crustless white bread. They get messy but are by no means gross or junky. In my book. A book that is filled with gross and junky sandwiches.

Does it taste like something out of the Sopranos?

garlic and slow heat burn as fuck.. should pass muster.

sanskrit, Sunday, 20 March 2011 02:13 (fifteen years ago)

Dan, did you know I backed against the wall switch and turned the lights on Saturday? Always ruining the kids' fun.

Fuck bein' hard, Dr Morbz is complicated (Dr Morbius), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

It happened a few times that night. Before the party even started, Jeremy said "somebody always hits the light switch and they never realize it's them and I have to run over and fix it.

I think, if timed correctly to the music, it could be pretty effective.

^^^^^^^^ how was that??

pissed I couldn't go

Purple Brain mix on rvng was so great

dmr, Friday, 27 January 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)

I wasn't feeling well and had/have to work today so I offered to go on first so I could leave early and not feel guilty. I DJ'd a 1982 college radio set to a mostly empty/bleak room from around 9:15 till 10.

Then Jeremy and Ben went on and played really cool stuff, including way too many of their own upcoming Lectric Sands releases. The bar slowly filled up more or less. Then Purple Brain went on and were great but by then a friend I hadn't seen in a few years came by so I ended up staying there till 1 or 2am. They played great stuff, I need to listen to the recording.

Then I went to Sammy's Halal in Jackson Heights for a very late snack. Then I came home and worked on The Trypes release. Then I went to bed around 3. Slept for 5 hours. Got up did more Acute stuff, then came to work.

I feel great!

dan selzer, Friday, 27 January 2012 17:37 (fourteen years ago)

sounds like a good time!

I went by Jeremy and Ben's studio a couple weeks ago to pick up a copy of the second Zoovox record. Pretty sick space. Amazing view.

I DJ'd around the corner from Heathers at HI Fi last night. Hopefully we're gonna do the last Friday of every month (next one is Feb 24). It was crazy packed ... not because of anything we did, just "East Village bar on a Friday" crowded ... it's p much an indie-rock bar but we played classic rock, funk, soul, then some new-wave and hipstery dance stuff like Midnight Magic, Todd Terje, Lindstrom and nobody openly puked or barraged us w/ requests so I think it went well.

(well actually one girl openly puked but I don't think it was because of the music)

dmr, Saturday, 28 January 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

We did get one request: Jamiroquai, "Virtual Insanity." I said I didn't have it, which was true.

dmr, Saturday, 28 January 2012 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

correct response:

"That request, my good friend, is ACTUAL INSANITY"

dan selzer, Saturday, 28 January 2012 22:08 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks. I totally stole them from some old flyer I collected from a design blog. Basic layout as well! I'll dig it up late.

dan selzer, Thursday, 15 March 2012 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

That's not that far from my house! Will be there if I can figure out how to see cuet boy's band in Gpoint slightly before or after.

2 flyers in a row using the same red with overprint.

dan selzer, Monday, 19 March 2012 04:35 (fourteen years ago)

do you print these?

caek, Monday, 19 March 2012 09:31 (fourteen years ago)

No. Just digital. I printed the Trypes LP cover. I've had my own press since the summer but have been struggling with mechanical issues. I have the premiere expert mechanic coming by this weekend finally, and am shopping for another press to balance out my shop, then I hope to be doing a lot of printing. So far I've just done a few business cards and wedding invitations for friends, basic stuff because I've had trouble getting the quality I expect from the press, due to issues that will hopefully be sorted shortly.

dan selzer, Monday, 19 March 2012 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

dan selzer, Monday, 19 March 2012 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

didn't know this was the final Dazzle until I saw Jeremy's email tonight, I can't make it out so congrats on the long run and thanks for letting me play a couple times. always a fun time hanging out there.

I did make it to the first "final Dazzle Ships" which turned out to be the "hiatus Dazzle Ships"

dmr, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 03:46 (fourteen years ago)

This is the last "regular" Dazzle Ships at Heathers. We may bring it back there for special occasions/special guests and/or we may try some other locations, or generally just do it "whenever". You should be honored to be one of our few repeat guests! Seriously thanks in any case.

And jeremy's email was wrong, Dazzle Ships is OMD's 4th album.

Jury is still out on Bellwether but we're gonna keep doing it to see how it goes. Not a lot of people going there on weeknights I think, but AMAZING sound system.

i'm going to try to make this.. iffy. maybe 50%? Ian teh J is going to be selling to!?

sanskrit, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not really selling. The carpark table will have a few Acute CDs and maybe the last copy of the Trypes LP.

dan selzer, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:37 (thirteen years ago)

though maybe I'll take the records I have up on discogs and put them in a crate or something.

dan selzer, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:37 (thirteen years ago)

i've got a buncha boxes of records to sell. a lot of rock, country, some blues, a small box of jazz, box of folk/psych folk/ssw, box of international stuff, some soul/funk lps, box of new age/avant garde. idk. i've been pricing a buncha records each day this week. sometimes i wonder if i'm pricing some things too high but then i shrug. if someone doesn't wanna pay $xx then i'll just keep it. or take an offer. lots of $5 records which will all be 5 for $20.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 2 May 2013 17:53 (thirteen years ago)

definitely want to say hi if i can come through, its been a while.

alright, as i threatened to, i'm here to ask about marfa, tx. if you had to list a couple of essential spots to hit (food, watering holes, shops, galleries, whatever), what comes to mind first? we're going to be there for a couple of days in october. i'm hoping it's still warm enough to at least dip our feet in the spring-fed pool at the state park. also, what about alpine, tx, up the road? i've heard it's interesting as well.

hope y'all had a blast there.

andrew m., Wednesday, 24 July 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

some talk here: Thread of West Texas/Southern New Mexico & Arizona/CaliMex Border Adventures

I'm hoping to put together my slideshow this weekend that will have pix and cover some thoughts/tips, since a few people have asked about it. I'll post a link here if I remember and on facebook.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 24 July 2013 19:16 (twelve years ago)

excellent!

andrew m., Wednesday, 24 July 2013 19:20 (twelve years ago)

working on Marfa blog post. A more epic undertaking than originally planned. Using it as an excuse to also set up wedding site. Hopefully in the next few days.

In the meantime, I'll be playing music on WNYU tonight at 9pm. It's a "psychedelic" show and I'll be stretching that. May play some 60s stuff but thought it might be more fun to play 60s-esque post-punk.

dan selzer, Monday, 29 July 2013 14:14 (twelve years ago)

had lunch with a friend who also visited marfa/alpine just a few weeks ago and we picked his brain about it. we're excited. with all the good advice coming to us, we'll really enjoy it i'm sure.

andrew m., Monday, 29 July 2013 16:55 (twelve years ago)

marfa blog post coming soon, promise.

in the meantime, last monday on WNYU radio:
