apparently not! it's a department store with another building, which is being renovated at the moment - dude thought it might be in there, haha.

gah i spent forever yesterday looking for boots/shoes in two different malls, sooo much ugly. I want something like those aldens but I don't need 40 eyelets on a 6" boot, jeez.
― Kerm, Sunday, 21 November 2010 18:32 (fifteen years ago)
i get lots of compliments on those ponyhair footscapes. i like the modern-primitive look, the comfort/ventilation is off the hook, I can play tennis in them (though i don't), they're really soft and organic, etc. and the brown is really rich and primitive.
my biggest concern about my shoes is a sense of redundancy. then again my favorite kind of pasta is olive oil + one ingredient.
― moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 21 November 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)
whoops didn't mean to say the brown was primitive, meant to say it was vibrant
― moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 21 November 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)
ill buy the grey ponyhair nikes if youre selling think theyre swag as fuck
wld sell all the other nikes (except maybe the gery suede zooms cuz theyre classic dgaf a shoes) and the nb. do clarks really have resale value id be tempted to keep those around too
ive been slowly trimming my p ridic shoe 'collection' but only by tossing the most f'd up pairs. i have like eight pairs of sb mids in near mint that i shld sell since i never wear them anymore
newest shoes a pair of vintage british black leather wingtips from the 30s

ds, do those Cascadias have gore-tex lining or are they otherwise water-proof? I'm always on the lookout for trail-runners that aren't grotesquely "sporty"-looking in their sportiness & those actually look pretty nice!
― the 'Friends' experiment (Pillbox), Sunday, 21 November 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)
I don't know technically what's what. I think they're not exactly water proof but are supposed to be designed to direct the water out/way or something? I think they're fairly ventilated. As it's getting cold, the few actually biting winter breeze's I've felt over the last week or so have definitely hit my toes in ways I never experenced while wearing boots or even other sneakers. Cascadias also come in black with yellow highights. I have to admit I've always found shoes like this really ugly and used to make fun of people with silly running shoes with all kinds of meshes and plastics and rubbers and colors. When the guy at the store pulled these out I was like "ugh. oh well, function before form!". But they grew on me really quick, and I realize compared to a lot of other similar athletic shoes, they're pretty cool looking. I've gotten compliments for them. Seriously, changed my life.
Here's the black and yellow ones. When they were mentioned in the store I was bummed because they didn't have them and I thought "oh black, that would probably be more low-key than these green monstrosities". But I think I prefer the green ones. Though these have a certain appeal.

What are those brown boots Mizzell? Those are nice. I want boots like that but so far nothing's fit well enough.
― dan selzer, Sunday, 21 November 2010 22:20 (fifteen years ago)
they are aldens, made for a store called context in wisconsin. $$$$ and not available till June.http://www.contextclothing.com/brand.php?brand=Alden
― mizzell, Sunday, 21 November 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)
The newfound hipness of Aldens is sort of funny to me -- I know them as classic bigshot law partner shoes.

Q: Would these work with a standard men's suit or does the light sole make them look too casual?

anyone ever experience the following Sorel shoes?
Chesterman Holiday Sneaker:http://www.amazon.com/Sorel-NM1576-Chesterman-Holiday-Sneaker/dp/B0037268E0/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1294722989&sr=8-12

not posting pics because the amazon pages have the best pics, and the Sorel site itself which shows other color palettes.

I'm satisfied with my new pair of New Balance 663's but a little disappointed with New Balance's raised prices. I bought my my old running shoes (New Balance 992's — one of the rare models still made in the US) for about $60 in 2008, and they're now selling for $80. the 663's are almost identical to the 992's in terms of design, except the soles are made of solid (synthetic) rubber rather than deluxe shock-absorbing foam-based polymer. I didn't wear the 992's for running anyways, so they were probably overkill anyways, meh.
oddly, about 3/4 of the medium-width New Balance models I tried on were too narrow for my feet. the two pairs I own (both medium-width) fit perfectly. the wide (E) ones are invariably too wide.
