Basically if I'm not actively feeding her, petting her, or holding something over her head for her to mangle, she cries. Continuously. I think I am going to be the mother who shakes the baby because I'm about to put the cat in the (unlit) oven to muffle the noise.

My childhood home was exac the same except assume 4 kids of varying ages. On the other hand, all creatures that misbehaved got thrown outside to cool their heels. Including me, once, in January, without shoes on.
