in a way, but not as...uh...cheesy? and bad.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Thursday, 1 February 2007 04:29 (nineteen years ago)

okay, so both those tracks are cheesy. but they're not bad.

Ingram Marshall - Gradual Requiem Part I from Fog Tropes / Gradual Requiem / Gambuh I

some of Marshall's stuff is too smooth for me but this disc is beautiful. I'd upload the whole thing if the guys at New Albion were not pals, but the record's in print and I can vouch for it.

that's Marshall singing at the end of the track for a few seconds

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 1 February 2007 05:32 (nineteen years ago)

man, haven't listened to this in years, 'gradual requiem' is so incredible

i totally recognized this song and realized a version of it was on a Telex album i have. Who is this Roberto Cacciapaglia character?

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 1 February 2007 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

before, this I only knew him as a minimalist composer -- I have a 1976 LP by him that's in line with P.Glass stuff from the time

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Friday, 2 February 2007 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

roberto cacciapaglia also made the ann steel album from i think 1979, its electroey pop and v good, 'my time' is on one of those collete compilations from that shop in france, though its actually credited to ann steel, who i think was an italian model

Friendly Tree (688), Friday, 2 February 2007 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

thanks flezaffe

there's a poor-quality concert of popol vuh with roberto cacciapaglia opening at this link. his piece (track 1) is beautiful and not at all crap like philip glass. if anyone has works of his like this please put them up

am0n (am0n), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

also jaxon, is the rest of the telex album good?

am0n (am0n), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

great! it has Mosko Disco on it. sick video. wassup paper rad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGtF3rEH4hE

jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

I think that's actually a new video from when Moskow Disco was reissued and remixed by Carl Craig and some other techno fools.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 02:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but in 1976, philip glass wasn't crap yet (which is to say, I wasn't trying to dis cacciapaglia)

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

i got that Telex album three weeks ago on the street from a bookseller. i was hoping for gems, but the rest was nowhere as good as Moscow Disco.
should i give it a second try?

the kwisatz bacharach (sanskrit), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 03:06 (nineteen years ago)

omg that video kills

the kwisatz bacharach (sanskrit), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

>yeah but in 1976, philip glass wasn't crap yet

music in 12 parts, einstein, north star, satyagraha = incredible music

almost everything after 1982 = offensively pointless, and since he's been putting out 4-6 releases a year since 1982, I can see why most people are simply walking around now saying 'philip glass is crap'

milton parker (Jon L), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno, man. i remember liking it, but it's been a minute since i've listened to it. i'll listen again and let you know which songs i remember liking.

Univac Index - Seal and Streisand on Mars

just in case any non-masochists have the good sense not to be reading a thread about mashups

milton parker (Jon L), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 06:22 (nineteen years ago)

We Are Still Getting Old, Neurovision, etc...the rest of it I think was more weird synth-pop then awesome electronic dance, but still good.

I don' t know why, but I love The Photographer by Glass, even though it's mostly pretty maligned.

3. Ain't Got No Home - Clarence "Frogman" Henry
4. I'd Love to Take Orders from You - Mildred Bailey, Mildred Bailey
5. In Spite of Ourselves - Iris DeMent, John Prine
6. All I Can Do Is Cry - Ike Turner, Ike Turner, Tina Turner
7. Big Girls Don't Cry - Edith Massey
8. Imitation of Life - Earl Grant
9. Sometimes I Wish I Had a Gun - Mink Stole
10. Johnny Are You Queer? - Josie Cotton
11. Night Time is the Right Time - Ray Charles
12. Hit the Road to Dreamland - Dean Martin
13. If I Knew You Were Comin' I'd've Baked a Cake - Eileen Barton, , The New Yorkers
14. Bewildered - Shirley & Lee

okay, so noot so noise but I do find this to be a pretty good comp., in time for v-day or something. Jet Boy, Jet Girl (you know.. like, Plastic Bertrand's 'Ca Plane Pour Moi' - which came first?) and 'Johnny, Are You Queer?' - classic. So if you were on a date with John Waters, this is what he'd play for you

catwon (catwon), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Clarence "Frogman" Henry

!?

am0n (am0n), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

you've heard that song, sung in funny "frog" voice,
"I aint got a muddah and aint got a fadder, I'm a lonely frog, I aint got a home"

"I sing like a girl, I sing like a frog, I'm a lonely girl, ain't got a home". well he sounds like a lot of things throughout the song.

catwon (catwon), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

Plastic Bertand came first. Elton Motello made up his own lyrics I think.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

xpost:
yeah, but Clarence "Girlman" Henry doesn't have the same ring to it now does it?

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

Can you tell whats on my mind
Shes with him its driving me wild
Id like to hit him on the head until hes dead
The sight of blood is such a high

Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

We made it on a ballroom blitz
I took his arms and kissed his lips
He looked at me with such a smile my face turned red
We booked a room into the ritz

Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

Jet boy jet girl

Im gonna take you round the world
Jet boy Im gonna make you penetrate
Im gonna make you be a girl

Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

I know Im only just fifteen
I like to kick I like to scream
And even if I had a kick or two in bed with him
You know its just a dream

Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

Jet boy jet girl
Im gonna take you round the world
Jet boy Im gonna make you penetrate
Im gonna make you be a girl

Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

The other day what a suprise
I saw him with some other guys
Got leave his dress off with a girl around his neck
I could have cried with both my eyes

Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

And if and when I make it though
Or if my brains black and blue
And when the world trusts you to foget all that
You know Ill still remember you

Ooooohhhh
You gave me head

Jet boy jet girl

Im gonna take you round the world
Jet boy Im gonna make you penetrate
Im gonna make you be a girl

Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

catwon (catwon), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

i love that frogman song, but that waters cover gets utterly undermy skin. strangely, the elton motello version of jet boy... is also on that comp that jarvis cocker put together (which has some real nice shit on it, btw)

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

it's not a water's cover. they're all originals except one, edith massey doing a cover of 'Big Girls Don't Cry'. The Damned also did a version of 'Jet Boy Jet Girl'.

catwon (catwon), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

edith massey and mink stole but no divine?? shocking!

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 23:58 (nineteen years ago)

that Lady Vengeance soundtrack is outstanding. the japanese do western classical better than anyone on the planet now.
-- milton parker (milton.parke...), January 24th, 2007.

Lady Vengeance = Korean

I should upload the Oldboy OST.
