I was going to call my 1989 album "The Negro". But I went for "Don't Stop the Night" instead. It still has a hint of negritude about it, don't you think?

By the way (and this isn't a change of subject), here's what Dwarfism.org says about terminology for the vertically-challenged:

"We are first and foremost human beings, it is secondary that we are human beings who are of restricted growth. Use of the word "midget" to describe someone of short stature is considered extremely offensive by some people. It is better to refer to someone of short stature as a "Little Person" or "Dwarf". Also, some people find the term "dwarf" as equally offensive as "midget". If people, both average and short stature, were able to place their humanity before everything else, the world might be a much better place. The more we stick labels on each other, the more we segregate ourselves, and the more we encourage ignorance and prejudice."

They then headline the section immediately following: "Estimated Worldwide Dwarf Population".

Uh, I've said this elsewhere, but their first EP is really brilliant...one of my favorites ever. It's also way better than Broom, in my opinion at least. It's more lo-fi/beautiful.

You can find all the tracks here.

Here's the tracklist:
1. Clod and the Pebble**
2. I Am Warm and Powerful (EP Version)**
3. Let's Get Tired
4. Oregon Girl (EP Version)
5. Accident**
6. You Could Write a Book**
7. We Can Win Missouri!
(8. and 9. Song W** and Song L)*

*only on later edition
**on my 'favorite songs ever' list

No, I know someone who had experiences like that. I dunno...

I just mean, the dreams that I recounted could be explained by taking in the cover of "Communion" or something...but this person had persistent experiences to that effect. Also, FSA just came up on my iTunes while posting this shit, so wtf

-- dell, Monday, 18 February 2008 05:13 (11 hours ago) Link

I'm sorry, "this person" was not me, but my friend's sister.

-- dell, Monday, 18 February 2008 05:21 (11 hours ago) Link

Also, I've had plenty of experiences where I've woken up from dreams and seen lots of persistent things happening on my retinas or whatever, but I wrote them off as being my serotonin or whatever being overactive.

What freaked me out about all of my "alien" dreams was the sense that I was being beckoned to follow some whooooosh stream which I was scared to follow up on at the time. Maybe if I had experimented more with DMT or something, I would have been more willing to follow up?

-- dell, Monday, 18 February 2008 05:30 (10 hours ago) Link

i imagine that if you did go with the aliens, long after their curiosity was satisfied you would still be telling them factoids about yourself.

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 February 2008 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

In all honesty, I guess i'm not self-aware enuff such that I realize how I might be guilty of this kinda thing on a regular basis. More to the point, perhaps, I just don't understand how occasional forays into self-indulgent blogdem here would be more objectionable than extended threads consisting of people arguing about the merits of different hot dogs or whatever.

I happen to like it when people go into self-revelatory mode in threads, but, if people find my style off-putting, I guess I can understand that?
