Jesus christ, Stevie, what are you on about this time? I know there's a natural surrealist gap to be filled after Steady Mike's recent defeat at the hands of the Trente Plateaux Raving Alliance, but you are risking your heartland support with all these bold ventures into obscure territory.

jeff, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

Max, many would claim Irreversible to be misogynistic, homophobic etc. I know it was a slightly lazy rejoinder of mine, but the point stands: if someone expresses something socially rotten in the name of art, I take it as art, and judge the person rather than the creation. The depiction of (rather than the reality of) appalling violence towards women is something I can stomach. Not in this shitty cartoony attention-seeking frat-boy manner, mind.

No in fact he didn't answer my question. I do not know his previous work, have only recently heard (of) him and like the couple of tracks I have thus far heard. Hence I wanted to know whether the full album was worth investing in or not since I haven't heard enough of his work to judge whether I like him as an artist or not. That was the reason for my question.

Next time I'll try and ask other people offline who aren't afflicted by chronic Asperger's. Sorry to have bothered you.

I am a homosexual. I listen to rock music, loud. (max), Wednesday, 10 September 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

I'd give Osama a well-earned B+ so far. Bush/Cheney get a D-, until you consider that they are much more concerned with consolidating power in the USA by suppressing citizens's rights than in piddling around with bin Laden. On that front they earn a solid B. Their dreams of controlling Iraqi oil and cowing the Middle East through conquest in Iraq gets about a c- though.

omar thank you for highlighting that, soto's typically sneery dipshittery has been bumming me out whenever i open that fucking thread

Ward Fowler, Sunday, 14 September 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

beginning a sentence with "as a writer of fiction" pretty much guarantees you are being a douche.

M@tt He1ges0n, Sunday, 14 September 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

actually, that was poor grammar: I meant I found Wallace as a writer of fiction mostly terrible. But carry on.

Alfred have you read Infinite Jest?

Mr. Que, Sunday, 14 September 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, and maybe I need to reread it in light of several interesting posts. In my twenties I found his tone -- his tussle between formalism, irony, and sincerity -- a real turn-off. Self-exposure was a risk I avoided from favorite writers.

Can we have an "I Love Sex" board?

The idea was presented in this thread, and I think it's a good one. That way could have a place to start all those "TMI" sex-related threads that some people find a bit icky, so people on the main board wouldn't have to complain about them. Also it might provide a kinda more intimate space for those folks who want to discuss these TMI things.

If it happens, I'd certainly volunteer to mod the board.
