ya, i almost got redwings. the Iron Ranger look like these wolverines, but w/a toe cap and are slightly less expensive. i surprisingly had to go down a size and a half with these ones.

I got the 1000 mile wolverines too, Jaxon. In black. Very expensive, but my birthday is coming up. I also tried on the Ascot, another from the series, which I liked a bit more, syle wise they were simpler, but they pinched me in a weird way whereas these were super comfortable. I bought them at a super trendy shop in brooklyn and everyone there was wearing them and they were really distressed and looked great and apparently they gave the shoes to somebody who like, took a belt sander to them or something, to give them that lived in look.

Was thinking about some cross-strap tretorns a bit like that but wound up with generic surplus instead.

I know boat shoes/docksiders etc are controversial here but that same high-end place that I got the Wolverines was selling these docksides boots:

which I think are pretty cool...

dan selzer, Sunday, 7 March 2010 06:31 (sixteen years ago)

the boots seem ok but the sole looks rong to me

I have not gotten new shoes in too long

dmr, Sunday, 7 March 2010 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

not to denigrate on the recent purchases of anybody itt! but I have been looking for an alternative to the converse all-star type of look, still lo-cut and slim in profile though. any suggestions?

am0n, Sunday, 7 March 2010 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

Dan. Did I already mention that I had to get vibram rubber soles added to the wolverines? I bout them specifically for the crazy rain we've been having, but with the leather soles on the wet ground, I felt like I was ice skating. So makes them even more expensive :(

and along the same lines as those other shoes you were looking at, I almost picked these up. They're pretty cheap ($100). Eastland Senecas.

jaxon, Sunday, 7 March 2010 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

*bought*

jaxon, Sunday, 7 March 2010 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

My wolverines came with vibram soles on the heal, but the rest of the soul is slick. I have the Clarks boots I posted upthread which I initially bought to deal with snow, because I was still wearing the wallabees and those have no tread at all and I was slipping around.

Those Senecas are nice, but my issues with the food doctor were that I need shoes that are both strong and supportive and with a high heal. Those senecas don't look much better than wallabees in that regard.

dan selzer, Sunday, 7 March 2010 17:43 (sixteen years ago)

ya, added rubber to the front

jaxon, Sunday, 7 March 2010 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

I realized after I bought those upthread that I had suede chucks that looked very similar in eighth grade. I don't think my style has ever actually changed.

i absolutely adore rachel comey shoes. she just created a (very very cool) ecommerce website for her mens line

http://www.rachelcomeymens.com/

jaxon, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 06:13 (sixteen years ago)

but are they comfortable?!?!

I'm still struggling with the wolverines. It's like it depends on how I tie them. Sometimes they're great, othertimes less so. Still hoping they break in but finding it harder to wear them daily.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 16:35 (sixteen years ago)

i don't own comeys, just dig em. the wolverines broke in immediately for me. weird

jaxon, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 17:49 (sixteen years ago)

i have a pair of comey boots that are pretty comfortable. they are a little big on me, which makes them less so.
