MAX BRODY, ULTIMATE ROADIE (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

no, it's all CHINESE people that look the same, dude.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Friday, 10 March 2006 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Is that both of you in one shot??

No. BRODY was a lot faster than me ;_;

gbx (skowly), Friday, 10 March 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

That DRAG RACE VID is freakin' inspiring. And nuts. Kiwi-sized.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

DDB THAT VIDEO WAS LIKE WO

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

How about "all skinny people wearing all-black & with helmets on look the same from a distance of about 30 feet." Now shut up.

That said, the monstertrack vid just made me SO happy. I will take it to heart and try to be less of a pansy next time I am stuck on fucking Flatbush.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:27 (twenty years ago)

:D

gbx (skowly), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Which will probably be tomorrow, since I'm out of everything and have to run all my Bklyn errands.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:45 (twenty years ago)

LAUREL IS ALL GONNA BE HAMMERING AND THREADIN THE NEEDLE ON FLATBUSH AVE, CARRYING BAGS OF GROCERIES....JUST GOING FOR IT!

NICE

MAX BRODY, ULTIMATE ROADIE (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:48 (twenty years ago)

wear a skirt

gbx (skowly), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

and BEER!

MEOW!!

KILLY WHO? (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:55 (twenty years ago)

I WISH. Ddb, you are my NYC bike guru, you know. Not so much for maintenance because for that I have myself and the nice people on Vbilt...but if I ever need to know what's kosher here, I will call you up.

Oh, XXXP. No skirts for groceries! Skirts are for biking to the social club in warm weather to drink vodka on the patio. Sooooon, my pretties, soon it will all be ours.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

aw yeah, patios and vodka (well, whiskey/beer) and bike riding in skirts spell REAL springtime. screw this rain today. i want to thread needles too, but still have some bus fear. (and need less wide handlebars. i can't remember the cool-word for handlebars right now...)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 10 March 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, the buses are nice to me, esp on the back streets like Dean where idiots double-park so no one can pass -- buses usually wait for me to wave them by. It's stupid drivers on Flatbush that freak me out, and taxis. And yeah, I know: one of these days I'm going to have to ride somewhere NOT downtown Bklyn. Best case scenario is bike to Wburg and no more B48 bus!!

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of which, have question: does night riding strictly require lights? Front/back/both? So far I've gotten away with short trips home from bar & etc but am starting to feel like I'm being stupid.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

i don't have lights, but that's because (a) my bike/bag are super reflecty and (b) i haven't gotten around to it. All you really need is a rear blinky.

gbx (skowly), Friday, 10 March 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I LOVE THIS THREAD.

I USE REAR RED BLINKER MOST OF THE TIME...ITS DEF. A GOOD IDEA.

I HAVE A WHITE FLASHER FOR FRONT (THX CUTTY)...THAT I BUST OUT IF I KNOW IM GONNA BE GOING AGAINST TRAFFIC OR FEELING SKETCHED OUT BY BAD DRIVERS/BAD BIKERS.

LAUREL, U SHOULD DEF GET A RED BLINKER...REFLECTORS REALLY DONT WORK.

THIS THREAD AND AWESOME NYC WEATHER IS MAKING ME WANT TO RIDE SO BAD....MY BIKE IS BEGGIN TO GET OUT OF THE OFFICE!!!!!!

GBX MEET ME AT MANHATTAN BRIDGE, NYC SIDE 6PM....FOR A QUICK BROOKLYN JAUNT.

:(

SIGH!!! (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:03 (twenty years ago)

;_;

I just got lunch! ON MY BIKE!!!!

gbx (skowly), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Okay! One red blinker TO GO, plus new chain needed. Also, once the days get longer I think I'm going to hop home from work and ride bike in to the Mass Transit workshop (or whoever that is) and get help balancing my brakes & figuring out why she hates 1st gear so much. Excitement!!

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I LOVE PUTTING ON CHAINS...U USE THE BEST BIKE TOOL EVER!!!!!

TEH CHAIN BREAKER!!

GOOD TIMES!!!! (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:26 (twenty years ago)

what is this "skirts are not for groceries" claim??

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:27 (twenty years ago)

I haven't needed a chain breaker yet, mine has a pre-broken link thing that pops off! But for the new one I probably will need to tool up. Also, I think the best bike tool is the clamp that holds brake calipers closed while you tighten the fuckers...otherwise I thought that was what ROOMMATES were for but they whine about it and you have to gag them with ball-bearing grease.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

And I think I'm out of grease. Anyway, Ally, I was just declining to wear a skirt when I go out for groceries & toothpaste tomorrow...because if I have to make emergency repairs at Atlantic Center, I wd like to not be worrying about bending over bike to wrench on rear axle. It's a drag.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh where is yr sense of adventure gone?

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:37 (twenty years ago)

It fled the last time someone outside the deli next door called me "Loosey Goosey" for putting leg over bike, loudly and in front of a bunch of other assholes who thought it was hilarious. Can do without the commentary, thanks.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:44 (twenty years ago)

LAUREL, U RULE!!!!

MAX BRODY, ULTIMATE ROADIE (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

team jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I can't rule, ddb -- I have a basket on my bike! Not consistent with ruling!

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:52 (twenty years ago)

no way, mexican delivery dudes rule, and they have baskets on their bikes.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:53 (twenty years ago)

U! A.) RIDE BIKE B.) WEAR SKIRT C.)DRINK BEER D.)RULE

gbx (skowly), Friday, 10 March 2006 20:59 (twenty years ago)

None of that is news, db! Besides, monstertrack riders rule much more. Wearing a skirt is NOT ruling criterion, it is just girl stuff.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Laurel,

Quick question: who the hell are you and where did you come from?

Steve

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Ask jaymc, he has the file!

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:08 (twenty years ago)

I need a network plug-in to jaymc's database.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Steve, I came from the swamp, I mean, the West Michigan lakeshore. I'm uh, me. I like books and Bud out of a bottle; dislike onions and the endless paperwork that is my job today. Have been around ILX for a while, took a few years' break and came back post-London bombing and just kind of stuck.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Laurel once came to my house. This was many years ago. We hid in the kitchen with my gay singing friend who I don't know what happened to. Because...prominent ILX persona was in the living room...and also, we needed to smoke.

Just so y'all know about it.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:11 (twenty years ago)

prominent... you mean ned?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Yes but I was having class about it, unlike some people.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Hey nice to meet you Laurel.

I'm Steve Shasta, semi-professional wakeboarder.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

i'm just like a holiday. no class.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Always need to smoke!! Nice to meet you, Steve.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

it's ok I forgive you.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

I think the end of that Monstertrack race is the bar I was at last night

ULĀ® (blastocyst), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:15 (twenty years ago)

MAX BRODY, ULTIMATE ROADIE (ddb), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:17 (twenty years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:18 (twenty years ago)
