i was in downey last night and ate a pretty good chicken sandwich at some place that had a lot of variations of chili cheese fries on the menu.
downey has the oldest surviving mcdonald's!

also home of the first taco bell. AND it is where karen and richard carpenter grew up, where james hetfield went to high school, and where weird al was born! fun facts courtesy of wikipedia.

Do you know how jellyfish reproduce? I just saw a nature show last night, so crazy. The world is so deeply weird, how do we even live in it??
Males & female release their sex cells into water, some eventually meet, that part isn't so weird. BUT the fertilized thingy lands on the bottom and anchors there and grows into a polyp with fronds and then morphs into a...column of baby jellyfishes, stacked up together like fringed muffin papers. Then they start convulsing and separate one by one -- and they are all exact clones!!! God.
― Laurel, Monday, 15 October 2007 01:17 (eighteen years ago)
is SO cool
― river wolf, Monday, 15 October 2007 01:22 (eighteen years ago)
Also, there's a variety of jfish that can REGRESS in age, if it gets too hungry, or the water turns too cold. It actually DEVOLVES little by little and turns into an unspecified clump of cells and then REGROWS from scratch. Nature has ALL the good tricks, maaaan.

rw, was flying over russia on the way to hong kong. everybody on the plane was asleep, the cabin was in total darkness. I got curious about what was going on outside, randomly opened my window shade and *blam* cherskogo mountain range.
if we mated like jellyfish, the bad dates thread would be a lot shorter.
― Edward III, Monday, 15 October 2007 01:51 (eighteen years ago)
although that regressing in age sounds eerily familiar...
