I'm consoling myself with the knowledge that I ate rabbit for dinner on Easter.

This thread is like falling through the rabbithole.

I don't understand half of ILX lingo any more.

Also, 70 posts (and counting) in half an hour, and not a single one over 1 paragraph. The speed has increased, the content decreased. I feel like an old lady in a ponytrap shaking her head in confusion at those whizzy new steam trains.

Pony and trap she means, forks.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/287275.html
I still don't get it within the context.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

her context is "a little old lady riding on a pony & trap", IE one of these:

http://www.motoringpicturelibrary.com/docs/hi-mpl340000067c.jpg

..thus outdated, behind the times.

the phrase you linked to is cockney rhyming slang "pony and trap" = "crap", this however is not what she meant. lol britishes etc etc.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

"britishes"

Holy hell, no way, man. That is...I don't have any words for that. The Nosferatu clip alone is...holy jesus of atheism if that isn't the most amazing thing I've seen/heard in my life. I struggle with why I have not yet seen that film. Surely I know who Werner Herzog is and would have seen it in his section at the store, but the only Nosferatu I've seen is the one from the 1920's or whatever. I shall make a trip the video shop on Saturday for sure.

Voted Smiths because of the lyrics along (particularly one sentence towards the end) and as an act of protest against a way too R&B/dance-biased list. 1986 wasn't a particularly good vintage, but it was better than this.

I don't even know what a mmog is, which makes this post 10/10

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

I know what MOG is and what an MMORPG is. So somewhere in between those two things, jon is v m in character

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just thinking about a giant multiplayer burgertime map with DIFFERENT ETHNIC REGIONS LIKE you go to germany and there's sauerkraut and the music changes to be oompa and then like fucking hero rolls and flood gate mechanisms for pushing other players around with condiments etc... maybe ramps for sliding things down?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

I was at a bar last night and they were simply BLASTING Devil Without A Cause.

And I have to say it was better than hearing another round of Sirius-satellite-radio-approved college rock jukebox picks from late-20-something Juno-watching blog-reading New York shit-for-brains playing "The Killing Moon" and "My Name Is Jonas" and "Debaser" for the seven gablillionth time.

Of course it depends on how one defines weird. Sonic-wise, The Buoys' "Timothy" fits unobtrusively on any Have A Nice Day-style 1970s comp. But the song is a tale of two guys trapped in a mine munching on the unfortunate title character, i.e. not exactly Top 20 fare.

Tons of R&B and rap count - Brandy's "What About Us?" or myriad Timbaland/Missy extravaganzas.

Napoleon XIV's "They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha-Haaa!" is genuinely disturbing both sonically and lyrically.

Then there are songs which sound demented the closer you listen like Annette Funicello's Kleenex/LiLiPUT preview "Tall Paul."

And what do you do with Steely Dan?

P.S. There's nothing remotely weird about that odious "Sunscreen" horror, easily the worst single of the 1990s. It's about as conservative as songs/tracts go.

I think that Sperry TopSiders are about to have what fashion people call 'a moment'. I'm after a black pair for summer shoes, and may even bust out the Bermuda bag I had when I was 14 to coordinate.

Tracer, canvas Converse? Or something similar by Raf Simons? Those canvas shoes are the official footwear of The Joiner's Arms; in fact I have just received a Bistrotheque event email that refers to that particular bit of east London btwn Shoreditch and Bethnal Green as the Fudgepacking District. This style is at least 5 years old.

I have found pix of me on party/styleblog sites before (there is one on a London site this week). Hate it because I always squint with flashpain.
