Hey Steve,

Do you remember when you bought the DVD of Short Cuts in Amoeba and you pointed to the cover picture of Robert Downey Jr. in a Stone Roses shirt and you said to me "he must have been sooo high"?

Do you think, that just maybe, he actually likes The Stone Roses?

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE AT UCSF? PULL SOME STRINGS, MAAAAAAN

_E

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 19:00 (eighteen years ago)

you trying to get into their med school or internship/residency program?

my best friend just finished his md/phd at columbia and is in residency at UCSF. another good friend went there for Pharmacy and i believe is teaching now.

jaxon, Monday, 13 August 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

med school---tho pops did some of his residency there, i think? all i know is that he lived in the haight during the 70s and the dope fiends called him "little dr cool."

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

rdubz:

which dept?

Steve Shasta, Monday, 13 August 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just trying for med school, full-stop. Though my dad did some of his plastics residency there, I believe.

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

your dad will probably pull much more weight than any of my friends. jaxon's bf is currently in the program (as discussed). you should contact him for contact info.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 13 August 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

maybe i will!

i mean, UCSF is basically the hardest school to get into in the country, so i'm not really holding my breath. tho i would like to do the MD/MPH program they have with Berkeley.

Also

Steve Shasta,

My friend lives in Japan and told me that if you and yr pals ride around on scooters and there's more than three of you, you are considered a "scooter club." Because of this, they got t-shirts made calling themselves the R0lling Pl4yer's Club, with nick names like "the R3verend L4rry L0ve" and "Fr3sh Fruit."

Is this true about scooter clubs and, if so, are my friends being sort of mean?

-RW

ps - what do you konw about Yellow Corn?

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

JW asked me about some anime a couple times. either that or j-pop. and then when i gave him the shruggy ascii he proceeded to send me wikipages detailing the backstory.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 15 October 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

I wrote those wikipages

one month passes...

SS, do you eat sushi with your fingers or use chopsticks?
got a holiday dinner at morimoto tonight

sanskrit, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

nigiri - always fingers... unless heavily sauced:
hikarimono - silver skinned fish that's usually been cured in vinegar (saba, aji, sayori, sawara, etc.) and dressed in ponzu or dashi-shoyu
eels - usually have kabayaki or eel sauce (unagi, anago)

use the pickled ginger to clean the tips of your fingers. also at more traditional places, an oshibori (wet cloth napkin) is provided at beginning of the meal, you may hang on to this for cleaning you fingertips during the meal.

maki rolls - depends
japanese style thin rolls (hosomaki) - usually fingers, these are fairly petite and clean (kappa maki, tekka maki, umeshisoyamaimo maki, etc.)
japanese style thick rolls (futomaki) - usually chopsticks
american style exotica rolls (henna gaijin maki) - usually chopsticks as not to brush against the cream cheese, mango-jalapeno chutney and what not.

sashimi - always chopsticks

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

katsuo (bonito) is another nigiri that is usually served dressed that you may choose to use your chopsticks to eat.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

where do i find bamboo shoe dudes

and what, Friday, 4 April 2008 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

you've made that joke twice but i have no idea what you're talking about

palo alto is actually pretty bad as far as food options go because it's like the venture capital center of the world. so everything is either on the expensive side (can't get out for less than $30/person) or just cheap junk food. theres also a lot of expensive mediocre food.

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 4 April 2008 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know, cambodia maybe?

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 4 April 2008 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

another important consideration is being on foot vs having a car

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 4 April 2008 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

all i want is cheap good food ;_;

Jordan, Friday, 4 April 2008 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

no car, but i could cab it for something really decent.

Jordan, Friday, 4 April 2008 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

indian food under $10 = hyderabad house, at 448 university avenue. entrees are like $8.95 but you order at a counter so you don't have to tip. i'm not an expert on indian food the way shasta's an expert on japanese stuff but i know it's always full of indian people. actually in silicon valley that's not saying much, all sorts of places are full of indian people.
