Ha, my bad. I didn't look at ILM all day yesterday bcuz the luna thing was too engaging.
In any case, ILM Heaven is now built on that fair and verdant hill.

The "No Rules ILX Heaven" thread. It turned into the lunagate thread a few days ago. Set aside about three hours if you want to really dig in.

On YouTube shreds thread
These videos make me sad. Why? Because I find them kind of amusing but not laugh-out-loud funny. To be honest, I started with the Clapton one, and figured out after a minute or so that the music wasn't what he was actually playing. But I didn't understand that the music was supposed to sound COMICALLY AND CATASTROPHICALLY WORSE than what he was actually playing. And that made me feel it must be the case that I don't actually understand what makes music work at all, and maybe I should just stop listening to it, even though I think of myself as liking and appreciating it.

On INXS:
They were not the most innovative band even at their best, so they don't have that Beatles/Hendrix/Kraftwerk thing where people say "this sounds corny now but back then it was the first time anyone did that". I did like some of their records at the time but there's nothing there that I'd want to listen to again.

are INXS mondeo pop, dom?
― stevie, Thursday, 22 November 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)
Eh... no, they're too... sleazy. I think most Mondeo Pop acts you'd be happy for your little sister to date. Plus there was something a little... American about INXS.
― Dom Passantino, Thursday, 22 November 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)
You really need to be commissioning me to write the great Mondeo Pop article for one of those rags you work for.
― Dom Passantino, Thursday, 22 November 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)
How in the hell does a song like "Kiss the Dirt" sound American?
― Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 22 November 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)
i pointedly avoid being in a position to commission anything i'm afraid, dom!
― stevie, Thursday, 22 November 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)
maybe el moz should take some "personal responsiblity" toward his audience of vulnerable young white guys?
I'm not sure if there is anything resembling a thought here. I could get mad, but then I realize its the internet, where we take being "irreverent" to mean you are intelligent, as long as you don't offend anyone.

Come on, racists don't make music swinburningforyou likes, that'd be stupid.
-- Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 21:33 (Yesterday) Link
please don't put me in some absurd situation where I have to list off musicians/writers whose work I enjoy that are racist. thats not what this is about and you know it.

Wow -- congrats Matos and Maura and Jess and whoever did those illos! I'm impressed you got this thing live so quickly, and w/ no bugs that I caught. Can't wait to read it all, and there are no other polls I feel that way about.
Of the things I voted for (and thanks to Curmudgeon for the shout-out), the ones I'm surprised didn't get more respect are "Chocolate Rain" in singles (come on -- that song is **still** earworming me) and the Omar Souleyman comp. in reissues.
A lot of people's reissue choices are weird to me, only 'cause I try to vote for stuff that's not been released/ is super obscure and hence "new." I didn't even know half of these albums got reissued last year...

Sorry to all ILM posters who voted, but when Britney Spears is higher than High on Fire, Neil Young and Baroness, it just confirms my belief that the apocalypse is right around the corner. Or, alternatively, that polls like this suck real hard.
