Important denim-related question for Steve Shasta!

I have found some jeans I am 100% pleased with, but they only come in one color. I would like to purchase multiple pairs of these jeans, and then possibly do something to differentiate them from one another. They're on the darker side, so lightening them with bleach would be nice, but I don't want some horrible splattery jacked-up look. Is there any technique that could provide smooth, even, inconspicuous lightening? And what would you suggest for other ways -- like, I dunno, patches and whatnot -- to differentiate these multiple perfect jeans from one another?

nabisco, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

patches

#1. summer friendly salt wash bleach sand tip: go to beach. wear jeans in water. run around. play in sand. lay jeans out to dry in intense sun light. don't wash for 1-4 weeks.

#2. friend with laundry tip: do you have a friend with washer/dryer? if so, repeatedly wash in hot hot water (whites). dry on hot.

#3. bathtub edition. similar to #2, soak in hot tub with a healthy dose of industrial strength stain remover.

when done to adequate fade, cast with green, red, blue, gray, or black dye to desired results.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Steve,

Have you given this any thought? This is from PitchforkMedia, and it always strikes me as funny-strange:

Most-read-reviews

* 2. José González Veneer
* 3. Electric Six Señor Smoke
* 4. Devendra Banhart Niño Rojo

There's like accents and stuff everywhere!

Also there's a typo in there. It should be "Nás".

admrl, Monday, 9 July 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

(nabisco explained that once, something to do with search engine weirdness, sadly enough.)(may not be the official shasta answer however)

bnw, Monday, 9 July 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

Should be 'Thé au harem...', too.

Michael White, Monday, 9 July 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

gr8080, Monday, 9 July 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

when my brother was 19, he and another dude rode the same wave. the other dude punched him in the mouth and knocked out 2 of his teeth. brother made lots of money off of it

jaxon, Monday, 9 July 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

i was politely, yet forcefully told to paddle back to the beach once after accidentally dropping in on a guy. i apologized again and the guy just pointed to the shore while staring me down. i just stayed far away from him for a few more waves and then went in anyway. he paddled in shortly after and was with some old-timer beach boys and some very tough looking younger guys. i got off pretty good, considering.

gr8080, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

Shasta-

Does gravel really help "cool you down"?

-gr80

gr8080, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

oh shit...

grady... i used to frequent a place with heavy heavy localism: silverstrand/channel islands harbor/hollywood by the sea... one time i saw some poor dude getting his teeth bashed in on a parking block.

palos verdes had insane localism, i think driven by san pedro dudes?

santa barbara bigspots like rincon when it got epic became pretty localized in a matter of an hour.

i used to get into it with asshole vals but that shit is fruitless. usually the local vibe is enough to keep things at bay.

don't drop in and snake waves, there are plenty of waves out there and if i started getting bummed, i'd find less congested breaks.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

in north shore i'm usually in pretty good company so that's not an issue so much (that and i'm usually scared shitless at hectic breaks in general).

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

where is msp?!?!?!?

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks for the good word Shasta; my story took place at Diamond Head (my usual break).

I'm still kind of learning how it goes and wasnt paying attention, talking to a friend etc. So all of a sudden this wave is breaking right on me and I didnt have time to duck dive so it was kind of like paddle or get pummeled, and so i paddled and then realized i had fucked over the guy behind me.

LESSON LEARNED THO.

gr8080, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

...i am not a surfer, but i've heard that some of the worst localism is found in OR. like, come back and yr car is completely trashed style

river wolf, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

(better than yr face, obv)

river wolf, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

milton and steve s.,
sorry to miss ya.

tuesday morning was crashy busy and i had no time. monday night was a last bit of socializing with our hosts, etc.

another time. i have a feeling our next visit will be sooner than this last one was. (there's a couple impending weddings i can foresee us attending if possible.)

anyhoot... issues shop was kinda cool. sort of insane to see sweet little old piedmont ave get a newstand with obscuro cassettes and moog tees. fun to see were-bird even if it was just a half-awkward couple minutes.

i laid down a couple dimes on a manhole in a dangerous intersection or two. for next time,
m.

What are the answers to the MCAT?

Thanks,

river wolf, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Steve,

Do you remember when you bought the DVD of Short Cuts in Amoeba and you pointed to the cover picture of Robert Downey Jr. in a Stone Roses shirt and you said to me "he must have been sooo high"?

Do you think, that just maybe, he actually likes The Stone Roses?

Adam
