those are the singles, but 'Requiem', 'Atmospherés', 'Volumna', 'Musica Ricerata', 2nd String Quartet & everything on the "Ligeti Project II" album slays too

Good call Milton, I was rooting around for 2001 this morning.
Better to remember him with something that wasn't stolen.

x-post x-thread to milton

get thee to whitenoise.blogspot.com ... aboriginal stuff from a few posts back... i already dumped the mp3's off this machine, but i can rip if you wanna wait till tomorrow.

what other sorts are you seeking? i have a variety of global "folk" stuff...not tons, but its what ive been digging more than less in the last few months. theres a great collection of basque stuff on folkways if you can wait till tomorrow.

bb (bbrz), Thursday, 15 June 2006 13:26 (twenty years ago)

baile brazilian beat vol. 1

kind of a shitty rip of it but I loaned out the CD so it's all i got

dmr (Renard), Thursday, 15 June 2006 14:28 (twenty years ago)

hey bb -- I get a 404 for that address and not much luck googling variants -- if you want to post a few tracks I am all ears. I've got some didg playing but always love more, I'm definitely searching for glottal throatclick singing

and eskimo music

and the basque stuff sounds great if you want to kick down examples.

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

can't remember if i've posted this already. i found this cd "burundi - musique traditionelles" at the library awhile back. some of the vocal tracks are wild (track 1, 10 and 13 for example), never heard anything quite like it. the liner notes were all in french so the whole thing is a mystery. (image linked)

http://www.africabookcentre.com/acatalog/CD_Burundi_Musique_Trad.jpg

it'd be nice if someone can explain what's going on in track 10 cuz it confuses my brain whenever i hear it

Elvin Bishop "Fooled Around and Fell In Love (Slow Version Rikyu)"

that's what i'm talkin bout right theah

Lætitia? Are you OK?

Brakhage (brakhage), Thursday, 15 June 2006 23:27 (twenty years ago)

whoops, theres a 2 in there.

http://whitenoise2.blogspot.com/

meant to grab a few things this am, but was running late...ill post next week even if its late fr yr current purpose. the basque stuff is great..double reeded pipes and vocals...it points more to a moorish influence than one would expect.

bb (bbrz), Friday, 16 June 2006 11:59 (twenty years ago)

this is the one i pulled..http://whitenoise2.blogspot.com/2006/05/didgeridoo.html

the more recent stuff could be good, but the descriptions make me wary of new-agish reworking and terrible production decisions.

does anyone have eskimo music?...i need to put the nypl to better use as far as the recordings collection.

Didgeridoo Dreaming: Spiritual Music of the Aboriginals

exactly what I was looking for, especially concerning the vocals.

I've been working on this for two weeks, I'll probably still be working on it by monday -- if you can upload one or two prime basque tracks, I'm all set

argh rapidshare.

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 16 June 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

i didn't upload them, i found them.

the shit that's even more infuriating about rapidshare is that new code blur thingy they have after the countdown...i'm kinda color blind and i can barely read them

jäxøñ (jaxon), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

will do (the basque)...yeah that didg disc is great. just played someof and burned the barundi record..that stuff's great!

arrgr, i have to get out of here..hopefully those links will last till mon jason...'cause im excited.

my burner is working way toooooo slooooow. killing me...i want to head to met and drink on the roof a half hour ago

bb (bbrz), Friday, 16 June 2006 19:02 (twenty years ago)

argh rapidshare

is there really a better option for large files though? whenever I try to get something off SendSpace I get "no download spot available, wait 60 seconds" .... what else is out there?

soooo many

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Friday, 16 June 2006 21:31 (twenty years ago)

eman, I have that cd, and my liner notes are in french and english. unfortunately, track 10 has the least written about it of all the tracks on the disc. I would love to see a more detailed explanation. in toto:

Track 10: Greeting sung by two young girls
Recorded on 1 June 1967 at Kayanza
The polyphonic interplay of the voices is particularly remarkable.

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 18:47 (twenty years ago)

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 18:48 (twenty years ago)

milton, what are you looking for? i missed this request.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 19:05 (twenty years ago)

aboriginal throat click singing, eskimo folk music are the two glaringly absent sounds left, but obscure world / folk of any kind

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 19:09 (twenty years ago)

new thread might be good..sorry, been bogged down..ill try and get to the bamboo on the mountains thing up in the am...

does anyone (hiatch, know you do) have the Arthur Russell Pop Your Funk 7" mix?

jäxøñ (jaxon), Sunday, 25 June 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

is it radically different?

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Sunday, 25 June 2006 22:12 (twenty years ago)

supposedly:

• the seven inch version of "Pop Your Funk" that Toop described as "one of the craziest 45s ever released."
• 7" Pop Your Funk fucking mad! Not much like the 'known' vers. Thanks for the upload.
• that 'pop your funk' 7" mix was totally bonkers.

jäxøñ (jaxon), Sunday, 25 June 2006 22:25 (twenty years ago)

it is pretty out there. I will RE-UP when I get home.

NEUBROMANCER (haitch), Sunday, 25 June 2006 23:33 (twenty years ago)
