Aeon Flux on relationships

I have been a serious Aeon Flux fan since shortly after I saw Peter Chung talk at U of M a couple years ago, and decided to read/post here after watching the podcast recently. Well, here's a topic I couldn't find on the old blog, sorry if I am mistaken:

When trying to describe Aeon Flux to someone I realized that a recurring theme involves Aeon getting involved with other peoples' romantic relationships. And that the couples in the show were very realistic and didn't offend my sensibilities in any way, in contrast to most of the romances that occupy american pop culture. It seems that if a narrative in american cinema/television isn't in essence a romance, there is usually a token romantic element to satisfy a vast audience which would not be able to pay attention without it. Yet, the relationships portrayed rarely make sense to me let alone bring anything to light.

I wonder if the inclusion of couples is one of the things Peter Chung is no longer interested in. I certainly hope he'll be able to work on a narrative of his own creation soon, so that we can find out.

(This is a different, less productive topic, but I can't help mentioning that before I discovered PC's work I was a fairly passionate anime fan, yet it was AF that convinced me that animation is by far the most relevant medium to me. Yet I for one wouldn't mourn if Aeon was never reborn. As dear as the show's imagery is to my heart I am just as interested in seeing entirely new characters and setting, if PC is the author. AF was like water in the dessert, and though I certainly LIKE Dark Fury, Matriculated, etc. each time I watch PC's derivations of someone else's work, I can only think "What? That's it?!")
