Ok, we tried Thanos vs. Darkseid a while a go, I figure for the holiday it's time to put the big guns up in the Marvel and DC Universes and see who is better or preferred between Dr. Doom and Lex Luthor.

So what you say ILC?

Dr. Doom is the greatest villain in the universe, surpassing Stalin.

I think the whole Doombot idea was a great story invention from the land of the No-Prize. Still, I think at points they try to make Dr. Doom a bit too nasty. I don't want a racist Dr. Doom, yeah he of course thinks he's better than everyone else, but it's more pure ego. Leave that racism to the Red Skull, he's really about the nastiest of the nasty.

Other than Darth Vader, Dr. Doom hasn't really translated quite as well into movies as well. Even if Gene Hackman's version of Lex Luthor was overly bumbling, it's still Gene Hackman playing the character.

I'd say the big bad guys of the DC Universe kinda trust Luthor a bit more than their Marvel equivalents trust Doom, although Doom is shown working deals on and off back into the Silver Age with other characters.

DOOOOOOOOOOM.

Elitist arrogance, royal haughtiness, utter delusion, cool mask, cool gadgets, Lee-driven vocabulary, Kirby design. There is no competition.

Unsurprisingly, Mike Mignola drew that story. On black paper, even!

Only one of these two wears a nifty green miniskirt on the reg. Gotta be Doom.

Luthor is just a bad ass, the guy doesn't have any powers per say other than he is a genius. He'd outsource his magic needs.

doom would fuck luthor up, c'mon

Luthor and Doom both have their fatal flaw being their ego. Doom does have wider rivalry in the Marvel Universe than probably Luthor in the DC Universe. I'd say Doom is one of Iron Man and the Avengers main villains, even not being a character native to that strip.

Doom among the other villains in the Marvel Universe was often shown grouping up the bad guys, but he always does them wrong. I think Luthor by comparison is perhaps a bit more trusted by other rogues of the DC Universe.

Both Doom and Luthor while playing their own games will break against a larger evil to assist their rivals, if in their best interests.

Luthor probably matches up better with Tony Stark/Iron Man, as they are pretty much the same type of character.

Doom definitely plays on a different level, as he is more often going mano-a-mano with some of the bigger Cosmic characters. Perhaps it could be said that Brainiac fits this role more for Superman than Luthor. The thing is that Brainiac has been shown so many ways, there really isn't an iconic version.
