Japanese translations

Translations of manga that I've read seem to feature uniformly stilted dialogue, but it could just be because T!m 3rw!n 60r3 seems to have a monopoly on most titles that get translated here. But I also read Doug's review of Buddha where he sez something similar w/ Tezuka's dialogue, and though I disagree with the quality of the dialogue in this title, the level of discourse (e.g. lots of exclamations!! Mixture of dialogic voices, etc.) does seem to be an endemic problem with manga.

Yes/no?
Search/destroy (i.e. what are well-translated manga? I can't remember how I liked the dialogue in Akira, or Ghost in the Shell)?

I kind of suspect that manga tend to feature more varied kinds of 'languages' -- a lot of manga seem to include extremely colloquial lower-class/peasant speech up through formalized aristocratic/whatever speech, and maybe Western readers find this mixture somewhat jarring?
