Because Forerunner can only be nu-Harbinger (someone owns a thesaurus), and that brings to mind PARIAH, and how about, um, Susan Powter Lady, not to mention SEXLESS Lois Lane in a purple dress, and, um, okay issue #8 was classic when the Flash DIED, and Spectre hand was cool, but COME ON.

Not nearly enough Haunted Tank.

Also, the Monitors have Osborn hair.

David R., Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:40 (seventeen years ago) link

There was way too much '80s hair among the major players in COIE.

Also: NO GREEN ARROW FINGER (I think).

My mom actually bought me the entire mini for my birthday when I was 10-ish. This is not a reason to hate on this.

At least in Millennium and Zero Hour, GA would say something, "Um, hey guys, I just shoot arrows, mmmkay?"

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:46 (seventeen years ago) link

and then "What right do we have to judge if this 'Earth-Prime'-privelidged narrative is more or less valid than our own?"

This is the thread where I say I had my fill of George Perez by 1980. Fuckin' hate that guy.

That Dead Supergirl cover that won greatest comic cover ever in some poll recently - well, it actually kinda sucks.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 13:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Wasn't that the DC Nation poll? Figures.

Also, the novelization is worse.

The greatest comic cover ever involves a choice between drowning and a certain group of giant scorpions I could mention.

A-true.

A friend bought me Crisis as a present in a "this will really knock your socks off" kind of way. I found it literally unreadable. The art is quite pleasant in and of itself, but the fussy layouts make trying to extract meaning from the pages an uphill struggle.

You mean this one?

I think he does.

an aside - that cover becomes even better if, using the magic of photo shop, you remove the words GIANT SCORPIONS and replace them with the name of one of your friends.

lol, yep

The “Arrowverse” crossover thing? Yeah, they’ve been talking about it for a while: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_on_Infinite_Earths_(Arrowverse)

Sounds like good TV:

...Pariah came through first by recruiting Jefferson Pierce aka Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), who managed to use his own currents to hold off the machine while the Flashes figured out a way to reverse engineer the anti-matter machine. It turned out they needed to essentially run backwards on the treadmill as quickly as possible, but when Barry volunteered for the task Earth-90’s Flash temporarily stole his powers instead and hopped on. As he ran out the matter the show inserted a flashback to the 1990 series “The Flash,” (yet another Easter egg) and with that, Earth-90 Flash was toast, too. His sacrifice ended the anti-matter in the nick of time; Earth-1, a.k.a. the last Earth standing was about to be blown up too....

Jefferson Pierce aka Jefferson Pierce

secret identity needs some work imo

I'm sure it was a kick for Marv Wolfman to have a comic he did get turned into a TV show and get to work on an episode either way.

Although I think like Gerry Conway, Len Wein and Howard Chaykin, I think he did do a bit of Tv writing at some point.

earlnash, Thursday, 12 December 2019 01:41 (four years ago) link

yes, like various of his era (Gerber may have been first?), he wrote a bit for American Saturday morning cartoons in the 1980s and 90s

pretty sure he's no longer startled to have comics he did get turned into TV or movies by now though :)

Watched the first three last night. Minor criticisms (Paragon scanner? Tom Cavanagh's whisper delivery) pushed aside by the fun of seeing previous DC show cast members integrated into the many Earths (earlier Flash, Birds of Prey, Smallville), plus some cast playing multiple roles. I thought that was a changed John Glover as dark Bruce Wayne, but checking, Kevin Conroy - nice fan service there. Not too bad.
