Do these exist?? Surely it must have bled over SOMEWHERE but all I've found so far is Channel Zero

not quite sure i get what you're asking about here - that ray gun magazine kinda aesthetic or something else?

Feel like Dave McKean's stuff kinda approximates that? Some Sienkiwicz, as well. And the little bit of comics work I've seen from Le Dernier Cri (like Henriette Valium). Gary Panter, maybe? I dunno. I don't feel like I'm quite hitting this particular nail on the head.

Likely? No. Possible? Absolutely. Iffy? Can't say. Doubtful? Maybe. (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 14:46 (one year ago) Permalink

i feel like every 90s comic i ever read featured advertisements heavily influenced by this style but i'm struggling to think of any actual comic book art over and above what old lunch has suggested already, although i must be overlooking some

ya I thought ppl might recommend Paul Pope, it's tangentially similar but tbh I read 100% and did not like it

i looked up some old vertigo covers expecting to see some of this look but for the most part they're a lot more conventional than i remembered

Functionally, Chris Bachalo reminds me of that aesthetic (simultaneously visually interesting and kinda shit at communicating anything coherent).

ashley wood's design-ish stuff is sometimes like this, although his narrative stuff was never my thing

there's also someone whose design book i have whose name is on the tip of my tongue and i'm blanking. he did some invisibles covers, i think?

ah, rian hughes

yeah, i can see rian hughes kinda fitting in here

i looked up some scans of old issues of deadline, the uk comic hughes worked on, but i think it was a bit too early to ride this wave

this is a hard question!

Oh! Maybe some of Brendan McCarthy's stuff?

He was active during the 90s so he's more the influencer than the influenced
