Oh yeah, I forgot about the first third of Promethea, when the "lessons on Magick" thing hadn't started yet. Yeah, that was pretty good stuff. I wonder if Moore always intended Promethea to go from regular plots to lecturing, or whether (as Douglas suggests in his book) he only changed gears when he realized Williams and Gray were actually able to illustrate whatever kabbalistic concept he threw at them?

First third/half/whatever of PROMETHEA is well-written. I guess DESOLATION JONES was, too, though I'm not a big fan of Ellis' work overall.

Oh yeah, looks like we were talking about the prequel when this thread was last revived, exactly a year ago. I can see why DC would want to put out a new press release, now that it has an actual publication date, but the wording of the news is still weird: Shelly Bond, executive editor of the imprint of DC Entertainment, said Monday that Gaiman is working with artist J.H. Williams III to tell stories of Morpheus' world before he was captured. As if all this is new information.

Anyway, since this one is supposed to be set in another galaxy (if we are to believe Brief Lives), I guess we can expect some widescreen cosmic visions from Williams? I've no problem with that.

Ah, okay. I read Amanda Palmer's Wikipedia page, and it seems she's some sort of an attention-seeker? Is Sic suggesting Gaiman has become an attention-seeker too, now that he's married to her?

It's not the seeking as much as the getting - the levels of self-absorption apparent in the recent Guardian interview are more relevant to sic's joke, which has been thoroughly beaten to death by now.

I kind of want Tuomas to watch The Wright Way and read the Ben Elton thread now.

Not sure why, but I can't imagine this going well at all.

Sandman is unfilmable, and WB is a joke of a company with no respect for its IP. Wouldn't be surprised if the final product (which probably still won't happen) resembles Constantine.

Deeply ambivalent about this.

If they wind up doing Preludes & Nocturnes, I can see them really playing up the videogame-y quest aspect of Morpheus tracking down his tools. V unlikely to see 24 Hour Diner Meltdown in a movie that's likely to be PG-13. I feel exactly the same about this as I did about adaptations of Watchmen, From Hell, Hellblazer, etc.: No.

If it were me I'd find a way to jump straight to A Doll's House, P&N is the worst book of the series.
